Game Rules in OGame: Why They're Important
OGame has been a fair strategy game since 2002 — and it remains so through a sophisticated ruleset. The rules protect newcomers from overwhelming attackers, prevent abuse of power through multiple accounts and ensure that the PvP system remains fair and exciting. As a beginner, it's worth knowing the most important rules before you've started playing.
Noob Protection: Safe Entry
Noob protection is your shield as a newcomer. As long as you have significantly fewer points than a potential attacker, they cannot harm you. This also applies in the other direction: you cannot attack significantly weaker players — that would remove the protection.
Noob protection kicks in automatically and doesn't need to be activated. It disappears when you become stronger yourself or actively launch attacks on players who are just outside the protection range.
Bash Limit: No Endless Attack
The bash limit prevents targeted destruction of individual players through repeated attacks. Even the strongest player in the universe cannot attack you endlessly. After 6 attacks, a forced break is built in.
Important: The bash limit counts per attacker per target. Multiple players from an alliance can theoretically all launch 6 attacks each — that's why joining an alliance for protection is so important.
Farming: Permitted and Forbidden Practices
Permitted Farming
Attacking inactive players and looting their resources is completely allowed and is part of the basic mechanics of OGame. Players who haven't logged in for several days are fair targets — as long as the bash limit and noob protection aren't violated.
Push-Farming Forbidden
Push-farming means transferring unnaturally large amounts of resources to another player through arranged battles or transactions. This is a serious rule violation and leads to the suspension of both accounts.
Multi-Accounting: Strictly Forbidden
Multi-accounting — running multiple accounts to feed resources to yourself or protect your own account — is one of the harshest rule violations in OGame. Both accounts are permanently banned if a violation is detected. Gameforge monitors suspicious activity automatically.
Exception: Holiday cover by another player is allowed in certain universes under strict conditions. Details can be found in the official game rules.
Holiday Mode
Anyone who cannot play for an extended period can activate holiday mode. In holiday mode, the account is completely protected from attacks, but also doesn't produce any resources. Holiday mode must remain activated for at least 24 hours and can only be deactivated after a waiting period.
Script and Bot Usage
OGame is a game that rewards human reaction and strategy. Automated scripts that control fleetsave, attacks or resource harvesting without manual input are forbidden. Browser add-ons that only display information without performing game actions are in a grey area — when in doubt, consult the official rules.
Reporting Rule Violations
If you observe a rule violation, you can report it to the Game Operator via the in-game reporting system. Game Operators are volunteers who are trained by Gameforge and review and punish rule violations. Keep evidence ready: screenshots with timestamps, coordinates and description of the incident.
