Metin2 Beginner's Guide: Classes, Levelling, Equipment and Important Systems

Metin2 is an action MMORPG with five playable classes, a levelling system, equipment, quests and various progression systems. This beginner's guide explains the most important basics for getting started and helps you make better sense of the first decisions in the game.

Summary: In Metin2 there are five playable classes: Warrior, Ninja, Shaman, Sura and Lycan. Each class has its own combat style and own specialisations.

Your character's progress is based primarily on experience points, status points, skills, equipment and quests. You gain experience mainly through monsters and quests. When levelling, you distribute status points, develop skills and gradually improve your equipment.

For beginners, it's particularly important to understand the basic systems properly: choose a class that suits your playstyle, distribute points strategically, pay attention to your equipment and keep an eye on important quest types such as hunts, horse quests and biologist quests.

How does Metin2 work?

Metin2 combines real-time combat with classic character development. Your character levels up, receives new points, learns skills and becomes stronger through equipment.

Progress is mainly created through:

  • defeating monsters
  • completing quests
  • distributing status points
  • learning and improving skills
  • collecting, trading and improving equipment
  • other systems such as guilds, pets and later progression systems

Metin2 is basically free to play. In addition, there are optional offers, events and server models that can vary depending on the time period and server.

First Steps After Download

After downloading, you start Metin2 through the Gameforge client and select a server. Then you create your character, choose a class and begin in the starting area of your realm.

At the beginning, you should first familiarise yourself with the controls, the first NPCs, the inventory and the first quests. The early tasks guide you through the basics and help you collect experience, Yang and your first equipment.

In the first hours of gameplay, pay particular attention to distributing your status points consciously, checking new equipment and not selling important items too hastily. From level 5 onwards, choosing your discipline becomes important, as it gives you access to your class's skills.

Classes in Metin2

In Metin2 there are five classes: Warrior, Ninja, Shaman, Sura and Lycan. The classes differ in combat style, equipment, skills and specialisations.

ClassCombat StyleDescription
WarriorMeleeWarriors fight directly at the front. Depending on their specialisation, they deal high damage or can withstand multiple enemies.
NinjaMelee or RangedNinjas rely on mobility, speed and agility. Depending on their specialisation, they fight with daggers or with bow and arrow.
ShamanMagic and SupportShamans use magic. Their skills can deal damage, help in combat or support other players.
SuraMelee or MagicSura combine sword combat with magical abilities. Their specialisations strengthen different forms of combat and magic.
LycanMeleeLycans are melee fighters. Their specialisation is Instinct.

Which class is suitable for beginners?

The best class depends on how you want to play.

Warriors are suitable for direct melee combat. Ninjas are good for players who prefer mobile melee or ranged combat. Shamans work with magic and support. Sura combine sword combat and spells. Lycans also fight directly in melee combat.

What's important is not just the class itself, but also your later specialisation. Status points, skill points and equipment should match your chosen playstyle.

Levelling and Experience Points

Experience points are the foundation for levelling up. You gain them mainly by defeating monsters and through quests.

Progress within a level is represented by four experience spheres. The experience you receive depends, among other things, on the ratio between your level and the monster's level. If the difference is too large, the experience you receive can decrease significantly.

Upon death, your character can lose some experience. That's why it makes sense to choose appropriate opponents and not constantly fight in areas where your character dies frequently.

Status Points

Status points improve your character's base values. There are four status values:

Status ValueMeaning
VITVitality
INTIntelligence
STRStrength
DEXDexterity

Up to three status points can be distributed per level. You receive these points within a level at 25%, 50% and 75% experience.

Each regular status value can be increased to 90. The appropriate distribution depends on class, specialisation and playstyle. Status points should therefore not be distributed randomly.

Skills and Discipline

Skills are special abilities of your character. From level 5 onwards, you can choose a discipline and gain access to your class's skills.

At level 5, several skill points are available. After that, you receive one additional skill point per level up. Once at least one point has been assigned to a skill, it can be dragged to the quick-access bar and used in combat.

Skills develop through several levels:

LevelMeaning
NormalBasic level of a skill
Masterfirst advanced skill level
Grand Masterfurther advancement after Master
Perfect Masterhighest skill level

A skill can advance to Master as you continue to develop it. Later development levels no longer occur through normal level-ups only. Skill books are used for Master skills, and soul stones become relevant for later levels.

Quests in Metin2

Quests accompany your character through various gameplay phases. They can require conversations with NPCs, defeating certain monsters, collecting items or special quest items.

Important quest types are:

Quest TypeMeaning
General QuestsTasks spanning many level areas, often with NPCs, monsters or collection objectives
Hunt OrdersCombat quests where specific monsters must be defeated
Mission Book QuestsAdditional tasks that are started via mission books
Horse QuestsQuests around the horse system and mobility
Biologist QuestsLong-term important quests with later permanent character improvements
Yohara QuestsOwn later quest areas with separate structure

Hunt orders especially accompany the levelling process. Mission book quests can provide additional rewards. Horse quests are important for mobility. Biologist quests remain relevant over a longer period because they can enable later character improvements.

The central NPC for biologist quests is the biologist Chaegirab. Baek-Go may play a role in certain steps or completions.

Equipment and Enhancement

Equipment is a central part of progression. Weapons, armour and other equipment items affect how well your character can defeat monsters, survive and succeed in various areas.

Equipment can be collected, traded and improved. When enhancing, you increase the enhancement level of an item. For this, you may need Yang and, depending on the item, additional items for item improvement.

Enhancements can fail. Therefore, you should not carelessly improve particularly valuable equipment.

In addition to the enhancement level, equipment items can have bonuses. Bonuses are additional properties that can make an item stronger or more useful for certain situations.

Important NPCs and Systems for Getting Started

Some NPCs and systems are particularly important for new players.

Village Blacksmith

The village blacksmith improves equipment. Yang and, depending on the item, additional materials are required for this. Enhancements can fail.

Warehouse Keeper

At the warehouse keeper, you can store items. The warehouse is helpful when you want to use items later or store them between characters on the same account.

Private Shop

A private shop allows you to offer items to other players. This system is an important part of player trading.

Guilds

Guilds are groups of players. They help with cooperative gameplay, information exchange and certain game content.

Guilds can have their own progression systems. These include guild levels, guild skills, guild wars and guild dungeons. Some content is therefore more geared towards cooperative gameplay.

For beginners, a guild is especially helpful for asking questions, finding groups and understanding game systems more quickly.

Pets

In Metin2, there are normal pets and pets from the pet system.

Normal pets are summoned via a pet seal and provide fixed bonuses for a certain duration. These bonuses can vary depending on the pet.

Pets from the pet system work differently. They come from pet eggs, have a duration, can be levelled and further developed, and can later learn skills. This system is more comprehensive and is better suited as a long-term progression system.

For beginners, the basic distinction is sufficient: normal pets provide direct bonuses, system pets are built up and further developed.

Events

Events can offer additional activities, rewards or time-limited game content. There are smaller recurring events and larger seasonal events.

The exact content, durations and rewards can vary depending on the event and server. You can find current information in the game, in the official forum or through official announcements.

For beginners, events are mainly interesting if they match your own level range and can be completed without much extra effort alongside normal progression.

Server Types

Metin2 can have different types of servers depending on the time period and offer. These can include regular servers, special event servers, premium servers or temporary servers.

For getting started, it's especially important to choose a server on which you want to play permanently. Special servers can have their own rules, durations or focus areas. It's therefore worthwhile to check the current server information before creating a character.

Avoiding Beginner Mistakes

Many problems at the beginning arise from unclear decisions in character development, equipment and inventory.

Pay particular attention to these points:

  • Distribute status points strategically
  • Use skill points consciously
  • Check equipment regularly
  • Don't sell items too hastily
  • Use the warehouse early
  • Pay attention to enhancements with failure risk
  • Distinguish between different quest types
  • Keep biologist quests in mind long-term
  • Don't mix later systems like pets, guilds, events and Yohara with your first levels
