What is Rapidfire?

Rapidfire (RF) is one of the most important mechanics in OGame battles. A ship with a Rapidfire advantage against a specific target can fire multiple times in one combat round with high probability. The formula: With RF X, the ship fires again with a probability of (X–1)/X. Then again with the same probability, and so on.

Practical example: Cruisers have RF 6 against Light Fighters. This means the Cruiser shoots again with a 5/6 ≈ 83% probability. If it shoots again, again with 83% — and so on. On average, a Cruiser therefore makes 6 shots against Light Fighters per round. This makes Cruisers the ideal counter-unit against LF masses.

Rapidfire Table: Deathstar

The Deathstar is in its own category. Its Rapidfire against almost all other units is the reason why a handful of Deathstars can destroy an entire fleet.

Bombers have no Rapidfire against Gauss Cannons, Heavy Lasers, Plasma Turrets or Shield Domes. These are the defences that make bomber attacks expensive.

Strategic Consequences

Using counter-units correctly

Rapidfire determines the composition of efficient fleets. Those who have many Light Fighters invite attackers with Cruisers — the RF 6 counter-unit devastatingly defeats LF masses. Those who mix Destroyers and Battlecruisers have a broad Rapidfire profile against mixed fleets.

Deathstar counter

Against Deathstars there are hardly any counters through Rapidfire — Destroyers have no RF advantage against the Deathstar. The only realistic countermeasure is massive numerical superiority with other Battleships or using one's own Deathstar in an ACS attack. Alternatively: Fleetsave when a Deathstar attack threatens.

Battlecruiser efficiency

The Battlecruiser is one of the most versatile fighters. RF 4 against Heavy Fighters and Cruisers makes it an effective counter against middle-class fleets. Combined with its high speed, the Battlecruiser is the backbone of raider fleets in many universes.
