Lifeforms Research Overview
Lifeforms research is a separate research system that runs parallel to regular OGame research. Each lifeform possesses its own technology tree with specialised bonuses. Whilst regular research is handled through research laboratories, lifeforms research requires artefacts as the primary resource.
The difference to normal research is fundamental: lifeform technologies work planet-specifically. On your main planet you develop different focal points than on your colonies. Anyone with multiple planets should target each planet specifically for one task — production, combat or research.
Artefacts: The Currency of Lifeforms Research
Artefacts are the central resource for lifeforms research. They are found exclusively through expeditions and come in three sizes:
- Small artefacts: Common, for early and low-level technologies
- Medium artefacts: Rarer, for middle technology levels
- Large artefacts: Rare, for high-level technologies
Since artefacts are only gained through expeditions, the Discoverer class with Kaelesh lifeform benefits most. However, anyone who consistently runs expeditions — regardless of class — can steadily advance their lifeforms progress.
Human Lifeforms Research
The research tree of the Human lifeform offers a broad range of improvements that strengthen multiple areas simultaneously. This makes the Human lifeform the most flexible option — at the cost of specialisation depth.
Important Technology Lines of Humans
- Infrastructure development: Accelerates building construction and reduces costs
- Production optimisation: Improves mines and resource extraction
- Military technology: Increases ship structural points and weapon strength
- Population growth: Accelerates the development of the lifeform itself
Rock'tal Lifeforms Research
Rock'tal technologies are focused on combat and defence. The research tree contains few compromises: anyone who chooses Rock'tal relies on maximum military striking power. The technologies significantly strengthen both offensive ships and defensive installations.
Important Technology Lines of Rock'tal
- Combat technology: Direct increase of weapon strength for all combat ships
- Armour technology: Improved structural and hull points
- Defence systems: Stronger defensive installations on the planet
- Resource plundering: Increased loot and debris field efficiency
Mech Lifeforms Research
The Mech research tree is the purest economic tree in the lifeforms system. Every technology aims at more production, more efficient energy use or reduced construction costs. For miners on a growth course there are hardly better investments than the Mech technology lines.
Important Technology Lines of Mech
- Production increase: Percentage increase of resource production for all mines
- Energy optimisation: Better yield from solar power plants and fusion reactors
- Storage technology: Increased storage capacity for all resource types
- Construction robots: Reduced construction times and resource costs for buildings
Kaelesh Lifeforms Research
Kaelesh technologies combine research acceleration with expedition bonuses into a unique synergy system. Anyone who invests in Kaelesh benefits doubly: shorter research times for all regular technologies and better expedition results that in turn bring in more artefacts.
Important Technology Lines of Kaelesh
- Research boost: Reduced research times for regular technologies
- Expedition optimisation: Higher finds during expeditions in all categories
- Phalanx extension: Enlarged range of the sensor phalanx
- Dark matter affinity: Increased chance of dark matter during expeditions
