Sieges: The Ultimate Guild Experience
Sieges are the one thing in MMORPGs that no other game genre can replicate: dozens of players coordinate in real time, attackers and defenders exploit terrain and class abilities, and at the end there is a clear outcome — a stronghold either changes hands or holds firm. This is epic gaming you will remember for months.
In 2026 only a handful of free MMORPGs offer genuine siege mechanics. Metin2 is one of the exceptions — and has been refining this system for over two decades.
Guild Halls in Metin2
Every Metin2 server has a number of guild halls controlled by the strongest guilds. These strongholds are not merely decorative — they grant the holding guild tangible in-game advantages and are considered the most important status symbol on every server.
Benefits of Holding a Stronghold
- Passive bonuses for all guild members (increased attack values, better drop rates)
- Access to exclusive stronghold areas with rare monsters
- Server-wide visibility as the dominant guild
- Special rank titles for the guild leader
Attack and Defence
Sieges take place during fixed time windows. Challenger guilds must register in advance. During the siege, attackers attempt to destroy the gate and push into the inner courtyard, while defenders use the castle's architecture to create chokepoints and mount a coordinated counterattack.
The key roles belong to shamans as healers and warriors as tanks — similar to classic MMORPG raids, but with the open PvP chaos that only a siege can bring. No two siege battles ever play out the same way.
Metin Stones: Territory War in the Open Field
Beyond the guild halls, Metin2 offers a permanent territory war through the eponymous Metin Stones. These appear regularly across the entire game map, marking "enemy territory". Players from different kingdoms compete to destroy them — or defend them to grind down their opponents.
Metin Stones are the backbone of open PvP in Metin2. They create natural conflict zones without needing a schedule — the war is always active somewhere.
Comparison: Siege MMORPGs in 2026
| Game | Siege Type | F2P | Player Count |
|---|---|---|---|
| Metin2 | Guild Halls + Territories | Yes | 10–50+ |
| Lineage 2 | Castle Sieges | Partially | 50–200+ |
| Guild Wars 2 | WvW Fortresses | Partially | Cross-server |
| Albion Online | Territory Control | Partially | 20–80 |
For a completely free game, Metin2 offers a remarkably complete siege experience. Lineage 2 and GW2 have technically more elaborate systems, but require a subscription or purchase.
How to Prepare for Sieges
- Reach at least level 60 before taking part in sieges
- Join a guild — sieges are only possible as part of a guild
- Optimise your class: shamans for healing, warriors for the front line, ninjas for ranged combat
- Stock up on Yang for potions and repairs
- Coordinate on Discord: sieges are nearly impossible to win without voice communication
