Metin2 Pet System: Pets, System Pets and normal Companions
Pets in Metin2 exist as normal companions with fixed bonuses and as System Pets, which hatch from eggs, can be levelled and equipped with skills.
Summary: The Pet System in Metin2 is a separate progression system for certain pets. These System Pets hatch from eggs, gain experience, level up, have a lifespan and can learn skills from the Heroic tier onwards.
Normal pets work differently. They are summoned via a Pet Seal and provide fixed bonuses such as HP, attack values, EXP bonus, auto-loot or elemental bonuses. They are not built up like System Pets via pet types, levels, ageing and skills.
Normal Pets and System Pets Compared
| Pet Type | Function |
|---|---|
| Pets of the Pet System | hatch from pet eggs, can level up, have lifespan, pet types, stat development and skills |
| Normal Pets | are summoned via a seal and provide fixed bonuses for a specific duration |
System Pets are mainly important for long-term progression. Normal Pets are useful when a specific bonus is needed directly for a limited time.
What is the Pet System in Metin2?
The Pet System comprises pets that hatch from pet eggs and can then be further developed. These pets have their own stats, a lifespan, pet types, evolution stages and skills.
A pet from the Pet System can only be summoned if its level is not higher than the level of your own character. The pet overview can be opened via the P key, the status display of a summoned pet or the pet button in the chat bar.
Pet Eggs, Incubation and Names
Pets of the Pet System hatch from pet eggs. A pet egg is placed in the incubation basket and incubated. Incubation costs 100,000 Yang.
During incubation, the pet can be given an individual name. The name must be 4 to 20 characters long.
Important properties are determined during incubation. These include the maximum lifespan and the number of possible skill slots. These slots determine how many skills the pet can later learn.

Levelling and Experience
A Pet of the Pet System can only gain experience if it is summoned and actively accompanies the character. To level up, the pet needs normal experience and item experience.
| Experience Type | Share | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Normal Experience | 90 % | is represented by four red orbs and is collected by defeating monsters |
| Item Experience | 10 % | is represented by a blue orb and is collected by feeding equipment |
The pet receives normal experience proportionally when the character defeats monsters. This experience is not deducted from the character's experience.
The pet receives item experience by consuming equipment items. The amount depends on the NPC price of the items. 2 Yang corresponds to one experience point.
Lifespan, Feeding and Resurrection
Pets of the Pet System receive a random maximum lifespan when incubated. This lifespan runs in real time.
The lifespan can be replenished by feeding other pets, pet eggs or a Protein Snack. When the lifespan drops to zero, the pet dies.
A dead pet can be resurrected with a Protein Snack or a Divine Protein Snack. A Protein Snack resets the pet's age. A Divine Protein Snack revives the pet at 80 % of its original age. One Divine Protein Snack is needed per 10 days of age.
Tradability and Transport Box
Pet eggs are tradable. Hatched pets of the Pet System are not directly tradable.
A transport box can temporarily make a hatched System Pet tradable. In the transport box, the pet does not age. If the pet still had durability when packed, it will be replenished when unpacked.
Evolution Stages of System Pets
Pets of the Pet System can reach multiple development stages. These stages determine which mechanics are available for the pet.
| Stage | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Young | Level 1–40 |
| Wild | from level 40 |
| Brave | from level 80 / 81 |
| Heroic / Hero Training | from brave pet level 81+ |
| Awakened | Champion Range |
| Powerful | higher development stage in Champion Range |
Skills become important from Heroic onwards. Later development stages expand the system to include Champion Levels and Potential Skills.
Pet Types, Stats and Ageing
System Pets have pet types. The pet type influences how the pet's stats develop. There are eight pet types. Pet type 1 is the weakest type, pet type 8 is the strongest.
System Pets provide percentage bonuses to HP, Defence and MP. The starting values are determined during incubation. As the level increases, these values improve depending on the pet type.
The pet type can be made visible with a Pet Identification Orb. Pet Enchantment can change the pet type. HP, Defence and MP are recalculated. The skill slots only change if the pet has not yet learned a skill.
The age of a pet also affects stat development. Older pets can receive an additional stat improvement. This increase is limited and ends at 800 days.
Skills of Pets of the Pet System
Pets of the Pet System can learn skills from the Heroic stage onwards. The number of available skill slots is already determined during incubation and is visible in the pet window.
| Skill Type | Function |
|---|---|
| Passive Skills | are permanently active and are displayed via a buff symbol |
| Active Skills | are automatically used in certain situations and have a cooldown |
Skills can be further trained after learning. A skill can be trained up to 19 times. Each training level costs 2,000,000 Yang.
Skills can be reset with Pet Reverti or Pet Revertus.
Pet Skill Books and Pet Book Chest
Matching pet skill books are needed for pet skills. The Pet Book Chest contains a random pet skill book.
Possible skill books include books for offensive skills such as Berserker, Drill, Monster Hunter or Vampire, defensive and supportive skills such as Hindrance, Healing, Mirror, Invincibility or Renewal, as well as special skills such as Yang Drop, Range, Lightweight, Magic Break, Brewmaster or Resistance to individual classes.
Which skill is useful depends on the pet, its specialisations and the intended use.

Which Pet Fits Which Goal?
System Pets are suitable for long-term progression. They can be levelled, developed and equipped with skills.
Normal Pets are suitable for direct bonuses over a specific duration. This includes attack values, HP, EXP bonus, auto-loot or elemental bonuses.
A suitable pet therefore depends mainly on whether a long-term developable System Pet or a normal pet with a fixed bonus is needed.
