Introduction: Jotun-Thrym, the Ice Giant
Jotun-Thrym is one of the most feared boss encounters in all of Metin2. The colossal ice giant challenges players from level 110 onwards and is widely regarded as one of the most difficult regular dungeons in the game. Anyone looking to defeat Jotun-Thrym needs top-tier equipment, an experienced group and flawless coordination.
The dungeon takes place in a frozen environment that makes every fight even more punishing. Frost AoE attacks, massive physical damage and ground-shaking stomps make Jotun-Thrym a true endgame test.
Requirements
Level and Equipment
Jotun-Thrym is not a dungeon for players who have only just reached level 110. The bar is set high:
- Minimum level: 110
- Top-tier equipment is absolutely essential (Snake equipment or equivalent)
- Full alchemy stone loadout is required
- Bring frost resistance potions
- Have enough Yang for potential repairs after the dungeon
Experience
Every player in the group should have already completed multiple challenging dungeons. Inexperienced players can quickly become a liability for the entire group.
Jotun-Thrym: The Hardest Regular Dungeon
What makes Jotun-Thrym so exceptionally difficult is the combination of high damage output, complex mechanics and the endurance the fight demands. The ice giant is not merely a hit-point sponge — he has genuine abilities that can wipe groups who are not prepared:
- Massive physical attacks: Giant strikes dealing enormous damage
- Frost AoE (Frost Storm): Area attack hitting the entire group
- Ground Smash: Targeted stomp attack that stuns
- Ice Wall: Blocks movement and splits the group apart
Boss Strategy: Defeating Jotun-Thrym
Ground Smash: Dodge Timing
The Ground Smash is Jotun-Thrym's most dangerous single attack. Just before he strikes he raises his foot — that is your cue to dodge. Anyone who gets hit is stunned for several seconds and left completely exposed to the next attack. Every player must internalise this timing.
Frost Storm: Stay Together or Spread Out?
When Frost Storm is incoming, players face a tactical choice: if the group stays tightly clustered, a single healer can top everyone up simultaneously — but the AoE damage hits everyone in full. If the group spreads out, each player takes less damage individually, but the healer must act more quickly. For less experienced groups, staying close with an increased healing rate is the safer approach.
Ice Wall: Communication is Everything
When the Ice Wall splits the group, immediate communication is vital. Players caught on the wrong side of the boss are in serious danger. Use chat or voice chat to coordinate quickly who is dodging which way.
Final Phase: Give Everything You Have
Below 25% health Jotun-Thrym enters berserk mode: attacks become faster and harder, and Frost Storm frequency increases. Now is the time for all cooldowns and maximum healing output. Do not hold back consumables — restarting the dungeon costs far more than a few potions.
Preparation: Equipment and Consumables
| Item | Why It Matters |
|---|---|

| Snake or Moonlight Equipment | Required base stats for this dungeon |
Recommended Group
| Role | Class | Notes |
|---|---|---|

| DPS 2–3 | Ninja, Lycan or another Warrior | Flexible depending on availability |
