The Horse System in Metin2: Overview

The horse system in Metin2 is divided into four main levels and extends to a maximum horse level of 40. The horse level serves as a milestone: when your mount reaches level 10, 20 or 31, your character qualifies for the next major advancement test with the Stable Master. From level 21 onwards, the levelling system switches from Horse Medallions (HM) to Horse Feed.

Tip: Players under level 25 can summon a pony from character level 10 onwards with a "Riding Card" for 10 minutes to get an early taste of the riding system.

The Four Horse Levels and Their Qualification Quests

Each horse level is unlocked through an advancement test with the Stable Master. The following table provides a compact overview of all four levels:

Level Character Level Horse Level Requirement Cost Unlocking
Beginner Horse 25 — (Start) 1 HM + 100,000 Yang "Horse Picture" (12–14 hrs)
Combat Horse (CG) 35 Horse Level 10 500,000 Yang "Weapon Horse Book" (8–14 hrs)
Military Horse (MG) 50 Horse Level 20 1,000,000 Yang "Military Horse Book" (12–24 hrs)
Mighty War Horse Champion Level 1 Horse Level 31 100,000,000 Yang "Golden Horse Book" + 50x Horse Feed

1. The Beginner Horse (Level 1 to 10)

Requirement: Character level 25, 1 Horse Medallion (HM) and 100,000 Yang.

The Test: Kill 20 Wild Archers on Map2 within 30 minutes. This quest must be completed solo. Note: "Strong Wild Archers" do not count.

Unlocking: Crafting the "Horse Picture" with the Stable Master takes 12 to 14 hours.

Feeding: The Beginner Horse eats hay. In case of death, it is revived with the Herb of the Light Monkey.

2. The Combat Horse / "CG" (Test from Horse Level 10)

Requirement: Character level 35, horse has reached level 10 and 500,000 Yang.

The Test: Kill 100 Scorpion or Snake Archers in the desert within 30 minutes. Help from a group is possible, but the quest leader must be the group leader for kills to count correctly.

Unlocking: Crafting the "Weapon Horse Book" takes 8 to 14 hours and enables combat from horseback.

Feeding: The Combat Horse eats carrots. Resurrection: Herb of the Normal Monkey.

3. The Military Horse / "MG" (Test from Horse Level 20)

Requirement: Character level 50, horse has reached level 20 and 1,000,000 Yang.

The Test: Kill 300 Demon Archers in the Demon Tower within 30 minutes. The group mechanic works the same as with the Combat Horse: being group leader is mandatory.

Unlocking: The "Military Horse Book" takes 12 to 24 hours to craft and unlocks active horse skills. Ninjas receive the exclusive skill Arrow Hail.

Level Special: Up to level 29, the horse levels normally. To reach horse levels 30 and 31, your character must have Champion Level.

Feeding: The Military Horse eats Red Ginseng. Resurrection: Herb of the Heavy Monkey.

4. The Mighty War Horse (Test from Horse Level 31)

Requirement: Champion Level 1 (Yohara Content), horse has reached level 31 and 100,000,000 Yang.

The Test: Kill 100 Gnolls in the Gnoll Caves within 30 minutes.

Unlocking: The reward is the "Golden Horse Book" and 50x Horse Feed. Your mount now increases SungMa Will on Yohara and can be trained up to level 40.

Feeding: The Mighty War Horse eats Red Ginseng (Premium). Resurrection: Noble Grass.

Daily Horse Training: How to Level Your Mount

The levelling system for horses in Metin2 is divided into two phases, each requiring different resources.

Phase 1: Levels 1 to 20 — Training with Horse Medallions

To level up, you must complete a daily side quest with the Stable Master. These quests require either riding to specific destinations or killing certain monsters.

  • Cost: 1 Horse Medallion (HM) per attempt — maximum 1 attempt per day.
  • Failure Mechanic: If the quest fails (e.g. due to time running out), but you haven't dismounted, died or teleported during the attempt, the Horse Medallion remains in your inventory and the quest can be restarted immediately.

Phase 2: Levels 21 to 40 — Training with Horse Feed

From level 21 onwards, Horse Medallions are no longer needed. The system changes fundamentally:

  • Your horse receives Horse Feed through daily quests, which is directly consumed as experience points (EXP).
  • Level ups cost Yang. If an upgrade fails, Gaya is required for the next attempt.
  • Horse Skills: From this stage onwards, additional passive skills can be learned via skill chests — including damage bonuses, more EXP or invulnerability. These passive skills work on every mount.

Horse Medallions: Where and How to Farm?

Horse Medallions (HM) are the most important resource for levelling your horse in Phase 1. They are only available in the three Monkey Dungeons:

  • Hasun Dong — accessible via Map1
  • Jungsun Dong — accessible via the Desert
  • Sangsun Dong — accessible via Monkey Land

Alternatively, Horse Medallions can always be purchased from other players on the marketplace for Yang if your own farming is too time-consuming.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Where do you get Horse Medallions (HM) in Metin2?

Horse Medallions drop exclusively in the three Monkey Dungeons: Hasun Dong (Map1), Jungsun Dong (Desert) and Sangsun Dong (Monkey Land). Alternatively, they can be purchased at any time from other players on the marketplace for Yang.

Can the horse be killed in combat?

No. When monsters attack the player whilst riding, only the character loses HP (hit points). The horse itself cannot die in active combat. A horse only dies if it is neglected over a long period in your inventory and is not fed with the appropriate food.

Can I use Item Shop mounts instead of the horse?

Yes, Metin2 offers numerous alternative mounts and Power Mounts (such as lions or wild boars) that often provide strong stat bonuses directly. However, to use the full combat features — such as direct attack damage from the mount — these mounts usually require that your character has already unlocked the Combat Horse (CG).

How do I reach horse levels 30 and 31?

Horse levels 30 and 31 are tied to a special condition: your character must have Champion Level. Without Champion Level, progression beyond level 29 is not possible.

What does the Mighty War Horse offer compared to the Military Horse?

The Mighty War Horse is the strongest horse level in the game. It increases SungMa Will on Yohara, can be trained up to level 40 and requires Yohara endgame content (Champion Level 1). It is therefore a clear endgame goal for advanced players.
