The Poison Sword — A Weapon with Character

Metin2 has many sword types, but the Poison Sword occupies a unique niche: it combines solid base physical damage with a poison effect that deals damage to enemies over several seconds. This damage-over-time principle (DoT) makes it especially effective against heavily armoured targets that are difficult to bring down quickly.

For years the Poison Sword has been a popular mid-tier item for Warrior and Sura players. It is not the strongest sword in the game, but within its level range it offers excellent value for money — particularly for players who do not yet have high-end equipment.

Base Stats and Variants

The Poison Sword exists in several variants depending on upgrade level and available bonuses. The base stats are:

AttributeValue (Base)Value (Max Upgrade)
Physical Damage~85–110~130–165 (depending on +)
Poison Chance15–20%up to 35% with bonuses
Poison Damage/Tick~30 per 2 sec.~55 per 2 sec.
Attack SpeedNormalNormal
Required Level40–55

The poison effect is calculated independently of physical damage and cannot be blocked by standard armour class — which makes it particularly valuable against heavily armoured opponents. In PvP situations, a poison DoT can force the enemy to flee or consume potions.

Where Does the Poison Sword Drop?

Monster Drops

The Poison Sword drops preferentially from poison-associated monsters in mid-level areas (30–60). Particularly productive farming zones include areas with snake monsters and poisonous insect bosses. Since drop chances in Metin2 are never guaranteed, persistence is required when farming.

Metin Stones

Metin Stones in areas around level 40–55 can also drop Poison Sword variants. Destroying Metin Stones is generally an efficient farming method, as it simultaneously yields Yang, Talisman Stones, and weapons.

Dungeons

In the Cave of the Exiles and other lower-level instances, the Poison Sword can appear as a boss drop. Players who regularly run dungeons will sooner or later find a copy.

Player Marketplace

The quickest route to a Poison Sword is often the marketplace. Prices vary greatly by server and upgrade level — a +0 Poison Sword is considerably cheaper than a +8 or +9 specimen. Negotiate or wait for an event if the price seems too high.

Upgrading and Enchanting the Poison Sword

Like all weapons in Metin2, the Poison Sword can be upgraded at the Blacksmith up to +9 (or even higher tiers with special items). From +6 onwards, the risk increases considerably — use Enhancement Blessings or settle for +5 as a solid middle ground.

Recommended Enchantments

Avoid experience bonuses on an attack weapon — wasted potential if your goal is to maximise damage output.

Poison Sword vs. Other Swords

In a direct comparison with other swords in the same level range, the Poison Sword holds up well:

For players between level 40 and 70, the Poison Sword is a solid, recommendable choice. Once you reach level 80+, you will start working towards Snake Temple equipment or Moonlight Weapons.

Tips from the Community

Experienced Metin2 players recommend the Poison Sword above all for Warriors in PvE who do not yet have dungeon equipment. In PvP, burst damage is often more important than DoT — fire swords or purely physical weapons tend to be more effective there.

A common tip: keep a Poison Sword as a secondary weapon. Some boss fights — where the boss regenerates frequently or has high armour — benefit more from sustained poison damage than from burst weapons.
