The Basics of Damage Calculation in Metin2
Metin2 has a multi-tiered damage system based on several factors. If you want to optimise your character effectively, you need to understand which values work together. Simplified, it works as follows: Damage = (Attack Value − Opponent's Defence) × Skill Multiplier × Critical Modifier.
The attack value in turn is made up of your weapon's base attack value, level bonus, your primary stats (STR, INT or DEX depending on class), passive bonuses from spirit stones in your equipment, and temporary buffs from skills and items.
Primary Stats by Class
Each class has a primary stat that affects damage most strongly. You should primarily invest points in this stat:
| Class | Primary Stat (Damage) | Secondary Stat (Recommendation) |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior (Physical) | Strength (STR) | Vitality (VIT) for Survival |
| Warrior (Mental) | Intelligence (INT) | STR for Hybrid DMG |
| Ninja (Bow) | Dexterity (DEX) | STR for Base Damage |
| Ninja (Dagger) | STR + DEX (Mix) | VIT for Dungeon Content |
| Sura (Weapon) | INT | STR for Physical Bonus |
| Sura (Armour) | VIT (Defensive) | STR for Attack |
| Shaman (Dragon) | INT | DEX for Attack Speed |
| Lycan | STR | VIT for Transformation Bonus |
Weapon Upgrade and Damage Increase
Weapon upgrading is the single most important factor for your damage. Each upgrade level noticeably increases weapon damage. From +7 onwards, the bonus increases significantly, and +9 or higher is end-game level.
Upgrade Levels and Approximate Damage Increase
| Upgrade Level | Damage Bonus (Approximate) | Shattering Risk |
|---|---|---|
| +0 to +4 | +5–10% per Level | No Risk |
| +5 to +6 | +10–15% per Level | Low Risk |
| +7 to +8 | +15–20% per Level | Moderate Risk |
| +9 | +20–25% | High Risk, Protection Recommended |
Spirit Stones for Maximum Damage
Socketing spirit stones is the second major lever for increased damage alongside weapon upgrading. Spirit stones are inserted into equipment slots and provide passive bonuses. The best spirit stones for physical damage are Red Spirit Stones (Attack +%), for magical damage Yellow Spirit Stones (Magic Attack +%).
Optimal Spirit Stone Socketing by Slot
- Weapon (3 Slots): 2× Attack Spirit Stone + 1× Critical Hit Spirit Stone
- Helmet (1 Slot): 1× Attack Spirit Stone (Alternatively Experience Spirit Stone for Faster Levelling)
- Armour (3 Slots): Balance between Attack and Defence depending on Playstyle
Critical Hits and Piercing
Critical hits double your damage and are particularly important in PvP and dungeon clearing. Critical hit chance increases through certain spirit stones, skill effects and equipment bonuses. Optimal are 30–50% critical chance for DPS builds.
Piercing bonuses reduce the opponent's defence and are particularly valuable against high-defence bosses. Prioritise piercing in dungeon builds, critical chance in PvP builds.
