The Fundamentals of Damage Calculation in Metin2
Metin2 has a multi-layered damage system based on several interconnected factors. Anyone wanting to optimise their character fully needs to understand how these values interact. Put simply: Damage = (Attack Value − Enemy Defence) × Skill Multiplier × Critical Modifier.
The attack value itself is composed of your weapon's base attack value, the level bonus, your primary stats (STR, INT or DEX depending on class), the bonuses granted by Metin Stones socketed in your weapon and equipment, and temporary buffs from skills and items.
Primary Stats by Class
Every class has a primary stat that influences damage most strongly. Invest your points primarily into this stat:
| Class | Primary Stat (Damage) | Secondary Stat (Recommendation) |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior (physical) | Strength (STR) | Vitality (VIT) for survival |
| Warrior (mental) | Intelligence (INT) | STR for hybrid DMG |
| Ninja (Bow) | Dexterity (DEX) | STR for base damage |
| Ninja (Dagger) | STR + DEX (mix) | VIT for dungeon content |
| Sura (Weapon) | INT | STR for physical bonus |
| Sura (Armour) | VIT (defensive) | STR for attack |
| Shaman (Dragon) | INT | DEX for attack speed |
| Lycan | STR | VIT for transformation bonus |
Weapon Upgrade and Damage Increase
Weapon upgrading is the single most important factor for your damage output. Each upgrade level increases weapon damage noticeably. From +7 the bonus increases significantly, and +9 or higher is endgame level.
Upgrade Levels and Approximate Damage Increase
| Upgrade Level | Damage Bonus (approx.) | Break Risk |
|---|---|---|
| +0 to +4 | +5–10% per level | No risk |
| +5 to +6 | +10–15% per level | Low risk |
| +7 to +8 | +15–20% per level | Moderate risk |
| +9 | +20–25% | High risk, protection recommended |
Metin Stones for Maximum Damage
Socketing Metin Stones is the second major lever for boosting damage alongside weapon upgrading. The best Metin Stones for physical damage are Red Metin Stones (Attack +%), and for magical damage Yellow Metin Stones (Magic Attack +%).
Optimal Metin Stone Socketing by Slot
- Weapon (4 slots): 3× Attack Metin Stone + 1× Critical Hit Metin Stone
- Helmet (2 slots): 1× Attack Metin Stone + 1× Experience Metin Stone (for faster levelling)
- Armour (4 slots): Balance between attack and defence depending on your playstyle
Critical Hits and Penetration
Critical hits double your damage and are especially important in PvP and dungeon clearing. Critical hit chance increases through certain Metin Stones, skill effects and equipment bonuses. An optimal 30–50% critical chance is recommended for DPS builds.
Penetration bonuses reduce the enemy's defence and are particularly valuable against high-defence bosses. Prioritise penetration in dungeon builds and critical hit chance in PvP builds.
