Why the Class System Matters So Much in an RPG
The class system is the backbone of every online RPG. It defines not only how a character fights, but also what equipment they wear, what role they fill in a group and how they perform in PvP. A good class system offers depth without being overwhelming — each class has clear strengths and weaknesses that enable strategic decisions.
Metin2 has developed a compact but deep system with five classes. Each class supports two fundamentally different builds, which in practice gives ten distinct character concepts. All five classes and all builds are available free of charge.
Metin2: The Five Classes in Detail
Warrior
The Warrior is the classic frontline fighter. Armed with sword and shield, they fight at close range and absorb damage for the group. The body Warrior focuses on raw attack power and burst damage. The mental Warrior is a buff specialist — they strengthen themselves and allies with powerful abilities and are indispensable in dungeon groups.
Ninja
The Ninja is the most flexible class. As a bow Ninja, they engage enemies from a safe distance — ideal for players who prefer reactive long-range play. As a dagger Ninja, they fight in melee, dealing very high damage but wearing lighter armour. In PvP, the dagger Ninja is particularly feared.
Sura
The Sura is a magical melee fighter. They channel dark energy to combine sword strikes with magic. The weapon Sura focuses on magically enhanced attacks. The armour Sura is defensively orientated and can display impressive survivability despite their melee focus.
Shaman
The Shaman is the quintessential support class. As a healing Shaman, they support the group with healing spells and buffs — highly sought after in dungeon parties. The dragon Shaman is surprisingly offensive: they use dragon magic to unleash powerful area-of-effect attacks, performing well in solo play and PvP alike.
Lycan
The Lycan is the newest class in Metin2. As a werewolf shapeshifter, they fight with claws in melee, combining high mobility with aggressive burst damage. The Lycan is built for offensive play — ideal for players who prefer a fast, aggressive combat style.
Class Choice and Build Optimisation
Your class choice in Metin2 is permanent — you cannot change class after character creation. That makes the decision meaningful, but not daunting: all classes are viable in all content, and creating a second character is entirely straightforward.
A character's build is shaped by stat distribution (Strength, Vitality, Intelligence, Endurance, Dexterity) and the selection of skills. These decisions can be adjusted later. The optimal build depends on whether you prefer solo play, group content or PvP.
Comparison: Class Concepts in Other Anime RPGs
Elsword offers 15 characters with four job advancement paths each — giving 60 unique classes, though the sheer choice can feel overwhelming at first. NosTale allows class changes through specialist cards, offering maximum flexibility but less depth of specialisation. Metin2's approach — fewer classes, deeper builds — is more accessible for newcomers and allows for a strong sense of identity with your character.
