Strategic deployment of lifeforms
The lifeforms system rewards strategic thinking. A randomly chosen lifeform provides bonuses — but the right combination of player class, lifeform and planet specialisation can double your empire's efficiency. The first step is choosing a lifeform that matches your player class and primary play style.
Important: The lifeforms system is a long-term investment. Bonuses build up over weeks and months. Starting early pays off — even if the initial bonuses seem small.
Synergies: Class + Lifeform
| Player Class | Optimal Lifeform | Synergy Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Collector | Mech | Maximum resource production through double production bonuses |
| General | Rock'tal | Enhanced combat strength and recycler efficiency for raiders |
| Discoverer | Kaelesh | Better expeditions + more artefacts + faster research |
These combinations aren't mandatory — but they maximise the bonuses you gain from both systems. A Collector with Mech lifeform produces significantly more resources than a Collector with any random lifeform.
Strategy for Miners: Collector + Mech
The strongest economic combination in OGame. Collector class and Mech lifeform reinforce each other: The Collector increases the base production of all mines, whilst Mech technologies add additional production percentages on top. The result is a resource machine that clearly outperforms competitors without this synergy.
Recommended development sequence (Miner)
- Activate Mech lifeform on main planet
- Bring Mech population buildings to level 5-8
- Research production enhancement technology first
- Energy optimisation as second priority
- Extend system to all main colonies
Strategy for Fleeters: General + Rock'tal
Fleeters who actively attack and collect debris fields benefit enormously from the Rock'tal lifeform. The increased attack strength means fewer own losses in combat, whilst improved recyclers yield more loot from debris fields. Combined with the General's increased fleet speed, this creates an aggressive play style that raids with maximum efficiency.
Recommended development sequence (Fleeter)
- Activate Rock'tal lifeform on main planet and moon base
- Bring population buildings to level 5
- Research combat technology as first priority
- Armour technology to reduce losses
- Recycler technology for more loot from debris fields
Strategy for Discoverers: Discoverer + Kaelesh
The Kaelesh lifeform is a natural fit for expedition players — better expedition results mean more artefacts, more artefacts mean faster lifeform development, faster development means even better expedition results. This positive cycle makes the Discoverer with Kaelesh the most productive setup in the universe in the long term.
Recommended development sequence (Discoverer)
- Activate Kaelesh lifeform — as early as possible
- Research expedition optimisation as first technology
- Consistently invest artefact finds into lifeform research
- Research boost technology for faster regular research
- Phalanx expansion for better enemy observation
Multi-planet strategy
With multiple colonies, another strategic option opens up: specialisation per planet. Experienced players use their core lifeform on the main planet for maximum synergy, whilst individual colonies are aligned with complementary lifeforms.
Example: A General uses Rock'tal on the main planet for combat bonuses, but deploys Mech on a resource colony to close the production gap created by focusing on combat. This mixed strategy requires more artefacts, but is superior in the long term.
