Perfect World — an MMORPG with Chinese Flair
Perfect World International by Perfect World Entertainment was, for many players, one of the most memorable MMORPG experiences of the past decade. The flight system — full 3D flying across the game world —, deep character customisation and extensive Territory Wars set the game apart. Three racial groups (Humans, Winged Elves, Untamed), nine classes and an impressive crafting system provided years of content.
By 2026, however, the situation for Perfect World fans in Europe is difficult. The European player base has shrunk considerably, active support is limited, and many players are looking for alternatives that deliver the same feel — deep MMORPG gameplay, faction PvP, long-term progression — within an active, well-maintained environment. Metin2 is that alternative.

What Perfect World Fans Find in Metin2
Faction PvP at the Heart of the Game
Perfect World's Territory Wars — guilds battling over territories that yielded resources and bonuses — was one of the most beloved PvP systems in MMORPG history. Metin2 offers a comparable system on three levels: first, the three-faction system (Shinsoo, Chunjo, Jinno) with open PvP in border regions. Second, guild wars between individual guilds. Third, ranking battles held on a regular basis. Together these create a political meta-game that Perfect World veterans will recognise immediately.
Deep Class Variety
While Perfect World offered nine race-linked classes, Metin2 concentrates its depth into five classes each with two fundamentally different specialisations. The Warrior as a physical damage dealer or a mental buffer-support; the Sura as a magical melee fighter or a defensive fortress; the Shaman as an aggressive Dragon caster or a supportive healer. The Class Overview explains every option in detail.
Long-Term Progression Through Multiple Systems
What set Perfect World apart was its layering of distinct progression systems. Metin2 thinks along the same lines: character level, equipment improvement through Alchemy, Biologist Quest stat bonuses, Pet progression, and Metin Stone bonuses — all of these stack into a progression loop that still feels meaningful after months of play.
To Be Honest: Where Metin2 Has the Edge
Perfect World had a reputation for aggressive pay-to-win monetisation — a criticism that was justified. Metin2 is not without optional purchases (Dragoncoins in the item shop), but the structure is fairer: cosmetics, convenience features and experience boosters are purchasable, but no core content is locked away. Experienced Metin2 players farm endgame dungeons without ever spending a penny. That is a fundamentally different philosophy from what Perfect World International practised in its later years.
There is also the decisive point for 2026: Metin2 has an active community. Gameforge runs the game with European servers, full localisation and regular events — more than Perfect World can still offer European players.
