What is an OGame Universe?

In OGame, each universe is an independent server with its own community, its own rankings and its own game settings. The English-speaking version of OGame comprises numerous universes, some of which have been running for over a decade. Each universe is divided into galaxies, galaxies into solar systems and solar systems into planetary positions.

Choosing the universe is one of the most important decisions when starting. Different speed factors and features make each universe its own experience.

Universe Parameters: What do they mean?

Economy Factor

The economy factor determines how quickly resources are produced. A factor of 4 means four times the production speed compared to the standard universe. In Economy-4 universes, the empire grows significantly faster — buildings are completed quicker, ships are available sooner.

Fleet Factor (Fleet Speed)

The fleet factor determines how quickly fleets reach their targets. A high fleet factor makes attacks and expeditions faster — but enemy fleets are also faster. In speed universes with high fleet factors, reaction time is even more crucial.

Research Factor (Research Speed)

The research factor accelerates all research. A factor of 6 halves research times compared to a factor of 3. In universes with high research factors, advanced technologies are available earlier.

Galaxies and Systems

The size of the universe determines how many players can be neighbours. Small universes (4–6 galaxies) have closer neighbourhoods and more intensive PvP. Large universes (9 galaxies) offer more space but also longer travel distances.

Special Features per Universe

How do I choose the right universe?

As a complete newcomer

Start when a universe opens. Everyone begins simultaneously, no one has an advantage. Choose a speed universe with an economy factor of 4 or higher — you'll see progress more quickly and can learn more easily without chasing veterans for years.

As a returning player

If you've played OGame before and are returning, look at active universes where you know alliance contacts. Alternatively: a fresh universe for a new start without old habits.

As a strategy purist

Choose a low-speed universe. Slow gameplay rewards long-term planning and persistence more than short-term activity. Here, strategy over months counts more than reaction time within hours.
