OGame: Multiplayer Space Strategy Since 2002
A space strategy game against AI opponents — that can be entertaining. But a space strategy game against thousands of real human players, with alliance politics, espionage and coordinated large-scale attacks — that's a completely different dimension.
OGame is designed from the ground up as a multiplayer experience. Each universe is its own galactic society: players build empires, form alliances, wage wars and negotiate peace. No AI simulation — real humans with real interests.
The Multiplayer Layers in OGame
PvP: Direct Confrontation
The core of the multiplayer experience is direct combat between players. You spy on an opponent, calculate the battle in the simulator, plan arrival time and attack. The loser loses ships and resources, the winner loots what's on the planet.
The depth lies in timing: An experienced player with a medium-sized fleet beats an inattentive player with a twice as large fleet if they catch the fleetsave window.
ACS: Alliance Combat System
Coordinated multiplayer attacks on an opponent — the Alliance Combat System (ACS) allows multiple players to synchronise their fleets to arrive simultaneously. This enables attacks on even the most powerful defences in the universe.
ACS requires precise coordination, timezone knowledge and strategic understanding — a real test for alliance organisation.
Alliance Diplomacy
Behind the military actions lies a complex diplomatic layer:
- NAPs (Non-Aggression Pacts): Bilateral agreements between alliances
- Alliances: Deeper cooperation with mutual defence obligations
- Wars: Formally declared conflicts between alliances with point scoring
- Negotiations: Resource transfers, territory assignments, ceasefires
Espionage Meta
Information is power. With espionage probes you gather data on enemy resources, fleets and defences. The sensor phalanx on moons allows tracking of fleets in certain solar systems — a powerful reconnaissance tool that endangers your own fleetsaves.
Finding an Alliance and Rising Up
As a new player in an established universe, joining an alliance is one of the most important early steps. A good alliance offers:
- Protection from attacks through strong members
- Resource transfers in emergency situations
- Knowledge transfer through experienced players
- Coordination opportunities for ACS attacks and defences
New universes start regularly — there the power distribution is still open and entry is particularly attractive.
Multiplayer Events: Community in Action
Beyond regular gameplay, events offer special multiplayer moments:
- Titan Clash: Alliances fight against each other for point rankings and rewards
- Speed Universes: Time-limited universes with increased game pace
- Resource Events: Increased production creates economic competition
No Download — Multiplayer on Every Device
An important argument for OGame as a multiplayer platform: The browser basis makes the game universally accessible. Your alliance partners from the UK, Ireland and other countries all play on the same platform — whether on PC, Mac or smartphone.
In alliances you often coordinate via Discord or alliance chats. OGame itself offers messaging and alliance communication systems directly in the game.
