An empire begins with one planet
OGame is the classic answer to the question: What if you could build a galactic empire from scratch in a browser? Since 2002, Gameforge has been answering this question with one of the deepest and most enduring browser strategy games ever developed.
The empire-building game begins modestly: a single planet in a random solar system. No resources except the very first starting reserves. No influence. No renown. What follows is one of the most rewarding building journeys in browser gaming.
The three dimensions of an empire
Economic Dimension: Resources as Foundation
Every empire stands and falls with its economy. Metal, crystal and deuterium production across a network of colonies forms the foundation. A well-established empire produces millions of units of each resource daily — enough to replace fleets, accelerate research and renew defensive structures.
Military Dimension: Fleets as Power
Fleets are the visible expression of imperial might. Light fighters as cannon fodder, battleships as the backbone, recyclers to harvest debris fields, and the Death Star as the ultimate weapon that can destroy moons. A balanced empire continuously invests in fleet strength — because fleets protect the empire and enable expansion.
Strategic Dimension: Alliances and Politics
No empire exists in a vacuum. Alliances are the social backbone of OGame: mutual defence, coordinated attacks (ACS), non-aggression pacts (NAPs) and wars against hostile alliances. The best OGame players are not only good strategists but also good diplomats.
Empire Building: The most important milestones
First Moon
A moon is the first major goal of many OGame players. Moons form randomly when a battle creates a sufficiently large debris field. The chance is maximum 20% from a debris field of 100,000 units. A moon with jumpgate and sensor phalanx makes an empire considerably more dangerous.
Death Star
The Death Star is the strongest ship in OGame and a symbol of imperial power. It requires Graviton research (which needs 300,000 energy units), is incredibly expensive and slow — but it can destroy moons and annihilate fleets single-handedly. A Death Star signals: this empire is a serious threat.
Top-100 in the Rankings
OGame maintains rankings for total points, fleet points and research points. Making it into the top-100 is a concrete goal that requires months of strategic work. The rankings are the measure of imperial greatness.
Alliance Leadership
Founding and leading your own alliance is the political summit goal. Recruiting members, coordinating war strategies, conducting diplomacy — alliance leadership in OGame is a full-fledged management mini-game that demands communicative and strategic skills.
The three classes for different empire styles
| Class | Empire Style | Strengths |
|---|---|---|
| Collector | Economic Empire | +25% resource production, Crawler bonus, energy efficiency |
| General | Military Empire | Fleet speed, combat strength, Recycler capacity |
| Discoverer | Expansion Empire | Extra planet slot, expedition bonuses, phalanx range |
What sets OGame apart from other empire-building games
OGame has been running since 2002 — that's no coincidence. The game has demonstrated remarkable stability that few competitors have achieved. New universes are regularly opened, giving every player the chance to build from scratch in a fresh environment. The result: OGame is simultaneously a proven classic and a fresh gaming experience.
The browser aspect is also crucial: no client, no download, no system requirements. The galactic empire awaits in every browser — on laptop, tablet or smartphone.
