What is Xnova?
Xnova is an open-source framework based on the OGame game mechanics. Community operators host private servers using this engine, offering OGame-like gaming experiences there — often with their own modifications, speeds and rule sets.
Players end up at Xnova because they're looking for OGame-like mechanics or want specific game speeds. What they often don't get: stability, long-term support, professional development and the assurance that the server will still be running in a year.
The Problem with Xnova Private Servers
Instability and Server Death
Xnova servers are operated by individuals. When the operator loses interest, hosting becomes too expensive or personal issues arise, the server closes — often without warning. Months or years of game progress are lost. OGame on Gameforge servers doesn't have this risk.
Outdated Mechanics
Xnova clones rarely implement the latest OGame features. Lifeforms, new player classes, the spacedock system, current events and balancing updates are missing on most private servers. The original OGame is continuously developed by Gameforge.
Small Communities
Private servers often have only a few dozen to a few hundred active players — compared to thousands on official OGame universes. Fewer players mean less trade, less diplomatic depth and smaller alliance wars.

| Mobile | Usually not | OGame Mobile App |
What the Original OGame Does Better than All Clones
Fleetsave — The Original Mechanic
Fleetsave is the central survival mechanic in OGame: sending fleet on a precisely timed mission before going offline. Xnova clones have copied this mechanic, but without the balanced game ecology of the original — too few players, too little raider activity makes fleetsave often meaningless on private servers.
Real Rivalry and Diplomacy
OGame's game value comes from real opponents, real alliances and real conflicts. On Gameforge servers there are thousands of active players per universe — experienced raiders, powerful alliances and active political structures. This is a fundamentally different gaming experience than on an Xnova server with 30 players.
Lifeforms and New Features
OGame's latest feature set — Lifeforms — adds a completely new layer: alien civilisations that settle on your planets and bring their own technology trees. This feature doesn't exist in full form on any Xnova clone.
When Xnova Can Make Sense
Private Xnova servers can be interesting for specific niches: extremely high game speeds, very small communities that know each other personally, or special rule sets that don't exist in the original. For everyone else, the original is the clear choice — free, stable and with the complete experience.
