Ikariam and OGame — Sister games from Gameforge
Ikariam has been one of the most popular browser building games since 2008. Greek island cities, resource trading, research and military expeditions have fascinated millions of players. What many don't know: Ikariam and OGame come from the same developer — Gameforge from Karlsruhe. The browser DNA, the F2P model and the gaming philosophy are identical. Only the setting and depth differ.
OGame (2002) is the older and deeper game. Anyone who loves Ikariam and is looking for a space variant — or who knows Ikariam and wants more strategic complexity — is exactly right with OGame.

What OGame offers more than Ikariam
The Fleetsave System
Ikariam has holiday mode and base protection, but no active security system like OGame's fleetsave. In OGame you send your own fleet on precisely timed missions to protect them from attacks. This mechanic creates a strategic permanent activation that doesn't exist in Ikariam — and makes OGame a more intense, deeper experience.
The Moon Mechanic
OGame has a game layer with the moon system that Ikariam lacks. After battles, debris fields form with the chance of a moon. Moons enable sensor phalanx (spy on enemy fleets) and jumpgate (instant transport). This mechanic adds a tactical dimension to the game that Ikariam doesn't have.
Class Selection and Playstyle
In Ikariam everyone plays in the same framework. OGame offers three fundamentally different classes: Collector (economic), General (military) and Discoverer (exploration). Each class fundamentally changes the gameplay feeling and enables specialised strategies.
Expeditions into the Unknown
OGame's expedition system — sending fleets to unknown areas for resources, ships or dark matter — has no counterpart in Ikariam. With the Discoverer class and increasing astrophysics research, expeditions become an independent source of income.
For whom is the switch from Ikariam to OGame suitable?
Ikariam players who seek more strategic depth, want more PvP excitement or simply prefer a space setting will find everything they're looking for in OGame. The basic principle — build, research, expand, fight in the browser — is identical. The mechanics are deeper. The entry is already facilitated by the Ikariam experience.
Ikariam remains recommended for players who prefer a more relaxed pace and less PvP intensity. Both games can also be played in parallel — many Gameforge players have active accounts in both.
