War on a galactic scale
OGame combat isn't a reflex-based action game — it's deep strategy. A successful attack requires reconnaissance, precise timing, knowledge of opponent habits and often coordination with multiple players. This intellectual challenge makes galactic warfare in OGame so captivating and so different from other games.
Since 2002, legendary battles have taken place in OGame's German universes — alliances controlling entire galaxies, coordinated large attacks requiring weeks of planning, spectacular fleet destructions discussed in forums. This tradition continues in 2026.
Attacks: From reconnaissance to loot
Step 1: Reconnaissance
No professional OGame player attacks without prior espionage. Spy probes cost little, fly fast and deliver crucial information: resources on the planet, fleets in orbit, defence installations. With sufficient espionage technology levels you see everything — with low levels the opponent must first discover how well secured you are yourself.
Step 2: Simulation
Before an attack is launched, experienced players simulate the combat outcome. Community tools precisely calculate who wins, how many ships are lost and what loot can be realised. An unprepared attack often costs more than it brings in.
Step 3: The attack
Fleet missions with the "Attack" command are sent to target coordinates. Flight time depends on distance, ship type and chosen speed. Flying at 50% or 70% speed gives the opponent less reaction time to secure resources or coordinate counter-attacks. Timing is everything — attacks are often planned for the opponent's early morning hours when they're asleep.
Step 4: Debris field harvesting
After a space battle, a debris field forms from destroyed ships — from both attacker and defender. Recyclers retrieve these resources. Depending on universe settings, 70–80% of destroyed ships end up as metal and crystal in the debris field. Whoever gets there first with recyclers gets the loot. The Reaper, as a newer ship, has special abilities for debris field harvesting.
Alliance wars: The highest escalation level
War declaration and rules
Alliances can declare war on each other. In war status, normal bash rules (maximum 6 attacks per 24h on the same player) no longer apply — enemies can be attacked unlimited times. Alliance wars can last weeks, destabilise entire universes and are the most spectacular events on a server.
ACS — Alliance Combat System
The ACS (Alliance Combat System) is the tool for coordinated group attacks. Multiple players send their fleets simultaneously to the same target — they arrive in a combined attack. Coordination requires precise timing so all fleets arrive at exactly the same time, regardless of their origin position.
Moon destruction: Death Star deployment
The Death Star — the strongest ship in OGame — can destroy enemy moons with a small probability. A moon destruction is a massive strategic blow: it eliminates the opponent's jumpgate and sensor phalanx in one go. Preparing a moon destruction is itself a planning task requiring infiltration, timing and often diversionary attacks.
Defence: Preparing the counter-attack
Planetary defence
Defence installations on planets are partially repaired after a space battle (not completely destroyed like ships). Rocket launchers, laser cannons and plasma cannons significantly increase attack costs for the enemy. Shield domes increase the survivability of the entire defence. Against pure resource raiders, moderate defence is often enough as a deterrent.
Newbie protection and bash rules
New players are protected by newbie protection from experienced, significantly stronger players. Bash rules (max. 6 attacks per 24h on the same player outside of war) prevent unlimited farming of individual players. These protection mechanisms enable even weaker players to thrive in the universe.
Titan Clash: The event for alliance warriors
The Titan Clash event is the alliance combat event in OGame. Alliances compete against each other in structured battles for event points and rewards. It's the organised form of galactic war — regular, with clear rules and prizes for the most successful alliances.
