What Endless Space offers — and where OGame goes further
Endless Space and its successor Endless Space 2 are polished 4X strategy games with strong AI, beautiful graphics and deep research trees. For genre fans, they're excellent — but both are primarily single-player experiences with optional multiplayer, and both require a purchase price plus a download client.
OGame offers the same 4X core — Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate — but in a completely different form: as a persistent multiplayer browser game without a purchase price, actively developed since 2002.
The four 4X pillars in OGame
Explore — Expeditions into the unknown
OGame's expedition system sends fleets into galactic unknown territory. The outcome is unpredictable: resource finds, additional ships, Dark Matter or hostile pirates. The Discoverer class receives bonuses on expeditions and maximises this play style.
Expand — Colonies in nine galaxies
With astrophysics research and colony ships, you settle new planets. Each colony produces resources and extends your strategic sphere of influence. Moons are created randomly during large battles and offer unique buildings like sensor phalanx and jump gate.
Exploit — Optimise resources
Metal mine, crystal mine, deuterium synthesiser — the economy is the foundation. The more efficient the resource production, the faster the empire grows. Plasma technology research increases production percentage-wise, the Collector maximises the economic style through additional bonuses.
Exterminate — Real PvP combat
In Endless Space you fight against AI. In OGame you fight against real people — with real consequences. Lost ships are lost, looted resources are real. This creates a tension that no AI opponent can reproduce.

Browser advantage: Space 4X on any device
Endless Space requires a powerful PC or Mac and several gigabytes of hard drive space. OGame runs in any browser — on any operating system, any device, without installation:
- No graphics card requirements
- Playable on school computers, office PCs, Macs, tablets and smartphones
- No patch waiting before starting the game
- Log in immediately and continue playing — even on the go
Real multiplayer instead of session coordination
Endless Space multiplayer requires all players to simultaneously start a session and coordinate. OGame is permanently active: All players exist in the same galaxy, at any time of day. No appointment coordination — real persistent rivalry and cooperation.
Alliances in OGame develop over weeks and months. Wars have real history, alliances real meaning. This is a fundamentally different, deeper multiplayer experience than coordinated single sessions.
