The skill system in Metin2 is the heart of every character: From Level 5, you choose a training through the quest "The Training" and distribute skill points across six class-specific skills. Each of the five classes offers two different trainings that fundamentally determine your playstyle. Understanding the system from the start saves time, Yang and frustration.
The Skills Window at a Glance
The skills window manages all active and passive abilities of your character. It is divided into two main areas:
- Class-specific skills: The six specialisation skills of your chosen training, as well as counter and boost abilities.
- Mount skills: Abilities used in mounted combat. Your current mount level is displayed directly in the window.
In addition, the window contains other skills such as combo and language proficiency, which have their own rules and effects.
Skill Points: Origin and Distribution
Skill points are the currency for levelling skills. Here's how allocation works:
- At Level 5 with the quest "The Training", you receive your first four skill points all at once.
- From then on, you get one additional point per level-up.
- Points are used exclusively for class-specific skills of your chosen training.
Once you've allocated at least one point to a skill, you can drag it to the quickbar at the bottom of the screen. From there, you can activate it with keys 1–4 or F1–F4 – or right-click directly in the skills window. Some skills can also be bound directly to your left or right mouse button.
Trainings and Class-specific Skills
Each of the five classes has two trainings with six skills each. You choose your training with the quest "The Training" at Level 5 – it shapes your entire playstyle.
| Body Warrior | Effect | Mental Warrior | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aura of the Sword | Attack power increases based on level and STR allocation | Strong Body | Defence increases, movement speed decreases, no knockdown from Master tier onwards |
| Battle Rage | Movement and attack speed increase; defence decreases from Master tier onwards | Sword Strike | Stun, area damage |
| Triple Slash | Three consecutive strikes in rapid succession | Stomp | Stun chance, area damage |
| Sword Whirlwind | Strong area damage around the character | Breakthrough | Area damage |
| Rush | Stun attack, briefly increased movement speed | Heavy Strike | Area damage |
| Will to Live | Frontal attack | – | – |
| Earthquake | Frontal attack | – | – |
The other four classes (e.g. Ninja, Sura, Shaman, Lycan) follow the same principle: two trainings, six skills each, one choice at Level 5.
Counter, Boost and Other Skills
Beyond the six core skills, there are additional skill categories in the window:
- Counter skill: Unlocked once the associated base skill has been mastered.
- Boost skill: After mastering a counter skill, you can choose a matching boost skill. These significantly strengthen your character in specific situations.
- Combo: Extends your attack chain by up to two additional strikes – useful for melee builds.
- Languages: Allows you to understand players from other kingdoms. Your own kingdom language is not displayed in the window. From M1 tier onwards, you understand players from that kingdom.
Levelling Skills: Books and Mana Points
Skills don't only advance through skill points – skill books are a central upgrade tool:
- Skill books can be read once every 24 hours. All books can be used in parallel.
- Depending on the elapsed time, different messages appear if you can't read yet.
- With an Exorcism Scroll, you can bypass the wait time.
- Higher skill level = stronger effect. Certain items improve the effect further.
Skills consume mana points when used. How many depends on the skill and its level. After use, they recharge – cooldown time varies by skill.
Resetting Skills: Costs and Rules
If you've distributed your skill points incorrectly or want to try a new training, you can reset your skills. The key rules:
- Reset is only possible up to and including Level 30 with the Old Woman for a Yang fee.
- You get all skill points back but lose the levels achieved through books M2 to M10 and any master tiers already reached.
- The term "overbuild" means: allocating more than 17 skill points to a single skill. This should be avoided.
- If a skill doesn't jump to the next tier after reset at 17 points, you can try again immediately with the Old Woman to avoid losing a point.
| Level | Cost (Yang) |
|---|---|
| 5 | 20,000 |
| 6 | 22,000 |
| 7 | 24,000 |
| 10 | 30,000 |
| 20 | 50,000 |
| 30 | 70,000 |
The price is 20,000 Yang at Level 5 and increases by 2,000 Yang per level. At Level 30, a reset costs 70,000 Yang.
For a reset after Level 30 or to switch training, you'll need a Skill Redistribution Document, which must be obtained through other means.
Practical Tips for Skill Allocation
- Never allocate more than 17 points to a single skill before it jumps to the next tier – that's the "overbuild" trap.
- Read skill books in parallel every 24 hours to maximise progress.
- Only unlock boost skills once the associated counter skill has been mastered.
- Before Level 30, consider a reset if needed – it's still cheap through the Old Woman.
- Bind skills to your quickbar with 1–4 / F1–F4 to act efficiently in combat.
Frequently Asked Questions about the Skill System
From when can I level skills?
From Level 5 – with the quest "The Training", you receive your first four skill points and choose your training at the same time. From then on, you can distribute skills.
How many skill points do I get per level?
One skill point per level-up. The only exception is Level 5, where you receive four points at once upon completing the quest "The Training".
What does "overbuild" mean in Metin2?
Overbuild means allocating more than 17 skill points to a single skill without it advancing to the next tier. In this case, you should use a reset or a Skill Redistribution Document.
Can I change my training after choosing it?
Up to Level 30, you can reset your skill points with the Old Woman for Yang and then start a new training. Note that levels achieved through skill books (M2–M10 and master tiers) will be lost.
How do skill books work?
Skill books can be read once every 24 hours – all books in parallel. They increase a skill's level beyond the normal skill point route. With an Exorcism Scroll, you can skip the waiting period.
What's the difference between counter and boost skills?
A counter skill is unlocked once the associated base skill has been mastered. After mastering the counter skill, you can additionally choose a boost skill that strengthens your character further.
What does skill reset cost with the Old Woman?
At Level 5, reset costs 20,000 Yang. For each additional level, the cost increases by 2,000 Yang – at Level 30, it's 70,000 Yang. Reset is only possible up to and including Level 30 with the Old Woman.
How do I activate a skill quickly in combat?
Drag skills to your quickbar (at least 1 point must be allocated) and then call them up with keys 1–4 or F1–F4. Some skills can also be bound directly to your left or right mouse button.
