TL;DR: Herbalism in Metin2 (since July 2007) features quests with Biologist Chaegirab and potion brewing at three NPCs. Lilac is a research herb for Chaegirab.

The Lilac is a special research herb in Metin2 that you turn in as part of the Herbalism quest "The Biologist's Investigation (Lilac)" to the Biologist Chaegirab. The herb carries the designation "Research" and can only be dropped by certain monsters during the respective quest – it cannot be used for potions. Herbalism overall was introduced with the patch on 17 July 2007 and is a core part of early-game content for players between Level 4 and Level 25.

What is Herbalism in Metin2?

Herbalism is a game system that combines two core aspects: on the one hand, the quest series with the Biologist Chaegirab, where you collect and turn in special research herbs, and on the other hand, brewing potions with various NPCs. Both aspects complement each other but use different herb types.

Herbs come in two variants:

Important: These two types are not interchangeable. Chaegirab accepts only research herbs, and potions cannot be brewed from research herbs.

The Biologist Chaegirab and the Lilac Quest

The Biologist Chaegirab is located on Map1 in a small camp. He is the central NPC for all Herbalism quests, including the quest around the Lilac. His quests are aimed at players between Level 4 and Level 25 – after that, this quest series ends.

Chaegirab sends you out multiple times to collect a specific number of special herbs. Turning in these herbs can fail, because not every herb is deemed suitable. This means: You may have to farm more herbs than actually required.

Inventory peculiarity: You can only ever carry as many herbs as you can still turn in. Once you have the maximum amount to turn in in your inventory, no further research herbs will drop.

Tips for the Lilac Quest

The Three Herbalism NPCs: Baek-Go, Yu-Hwan and Huahn-So

For brewing potions, there are three different NPCs in Metin2 that offer different potion tiers. Here's an overview:

Herbalism NPCs in Metin2: Location and Potion Tiers
NPC Location Basic Potions Advanced Potions Expert Potions
Baek-Go Village 1 (Map1)
Yu-Hwan Village 2 (Map2)
Huahn-So Village 2 (Map2) & Donganebene Village

Baek-Go is the starter NPC for herbalism potions. He is located in Village 1 on Map1 and can exclusively craft the four basic potions. You unlock the "Herbalism" option with him only after completing the quest Ingredient for Medicine. Additionally, to brew potions with Baek-Go, you must be at least Level 15.

Yu-Hwan sits in Village 2 on Map2 and offers both basic and advanced potions. Those who develop their character further and want to get more out of Herbalism will eventually switch to Yu-Hwan.

Huahn-So is the most comprehensive Herbalism NPC. He is the only NPC who can craft Expert Potions. You can find him in both Village 2 (Map2) and Donganebene Village, making him particularly accessible.

Potion Tiers Overview

The Herbalism system distinguishes three potion tiers. The exact potion names are displayed in-game and depend on the respective recipe. Here's the rough breakdown:

Herbalism Potion Tiers
Tier Available from Note
Basic Potions Baek-Go, Yu-Hwan, Huahn-So From Level 15 with Baek-Go; prerequisite: quest "Ingredient for Medicine"
Advanced Potions Yu-Hwan, Huahn-So Higher requirements for herbs and character level
Expert Potions Huahn-So only Exclusive; Huahn-So is the only NPC with this offering

Unlocking Herbalism: Prerequisites and Order

Herbalism is not fully accessible from the start. Here are the most important prerequisites at a glance:

The recommended order for new players: First complete the Chaegirab quests (Level 4–25), then from Level 15 onwards unlock the potion options with Baek-Go and progress to Yu-Hwan and finally Huahn-So as your level increases.

Farming Lilac: What You Need to Know

The Lilac as a research herb follows the general rules for Chaegirab quest herbs. This means concretely:

Since the wiki sources do not provide specific monster names or drop rates for the Lilac, we recommend checking the official Metin2 Wiki under the entry "The Biologist's Investigation (Lilac)" for current details.

Frequently Asked Questions about Herbalism and Lilac

What is Lilac in Metin2?

The Lilac is a research herb that you turn in as part of the quest "The Biologist's Investigation (Lilac)" to the Biologist Chaegirab on Map1. It can only be dropped by specific monsters during the active quest and is not usable for potion making.

Where do I find the Biologist Chaegirab?

Chaegirab is located on Map1 in a small camp. He gives you research quests for special herbs like Lilac between Level 4 and Level 25.

From what level can I brew potions with Baek-Go?

You must be at least Level 15 to brew potions with Baek-Go. Additionally, the quest "Ingredient for Medicine" must be completed for the Herbalism option to become available with him.

What's the difference between research herbs and potion-making herbs?

Research herbs (like Lilac) are intended exclusively for quests with the Biologist Chaegirab and cannot be processed into potions. Potion-making herbs are brewed into potions by the NPCs Baek-Go, Yu-Hwan or Huahn-So.

Where do I find Huahn-So and what does he offer?

Huahn-So can be found in Village 2 (Map2) as well as in Donganebene Village. He is the only NPC in Metin2 who can craft Expert Potions – in addition to basic and advanced potions.

Why am I no longer getting Lilac drops?

This is due to the inventory limit for research herbs: you can only ever carry as many herbs as you still need to turn in. If your inventory already contains the maximum amount, drops will stop. Turn in herbs with Chaegirab first to free up space.

Can turning in herbs to Chaegirab fail?

Yes. Turning in research herbs to Chaegirab can fail because not every herb is deemed suitable. Therefore, plan a buffer when farming and collect more herbs than the minimum required amount.

When was Herbalism introduced to Metin2?

Herbalism was implemented in Metin2 with the patch on 17 July 2007.
