From level 25 onwards you can start the horse quest with the Stable Master in Metin2 and secure your first own horse. The horse is the basic riding mount in the game and offers significantly faster movement than on foot. Those who have the necessary funds and complete the quest successfully can use their faithful steed permanently. In addition to normal horses, there is a whole range of other riding mounts that are available through events or the item shop.

Requirements: When do you get a horse?

The horse is not an automatic reward for levelling – you need to take action yourself. Here are the most important requirements:

If you haven't reached level 25 yet, you should first gain experience in the early areas of Metin2. The horse is worthwhile early in the game, as it significantly reduces the walking distances between quests and farming spots.

Taming horses: The "Call Horse" skill

Not every attempt to call your horse is automatically successful. The "Call Horse" skill indicates how well you can summon your horse. The higher the skill value, the more reliably your riding mount appears on command.

Mana costs when calling

Each call attempt costs mana points. The exact costs depend on the type of horse:

Mana costs by horse type when calling
Horse type Mana cost per call attempt
Normal horse 100 MP
War horse 200 MP
Military horse 300 MP

The "Call Horse" skill improves through use – the more often you call your horse, the better you become at it. Make sure you have enough mana available, especially with higher-tier horse types.

Levelling your horse: Scroll of Oblivion

Your horse has its own levelling system. Those who don't have the time or patience for gradual levelling can use the Scroll of Oblivion. With it, you can level up your horse directly and without waiting time. A Scroll of Oblivion costs 25 Dragon Coins (DR) per use. Dragon Coins are the premium currency in the Metin2 item shop.

The Horse Care Manual

When you click on your horse, the Horse Care Manual opens. This menu is the central hub for managing your riding mount. The following actions are possible there:

The manual is intuitively laid out and brings together all important care functions in one place. Use it regularly to keep an eye on your horse's status.

Feeding your horse: Food and survival

A horse that is not fed will die. This is the most important rule of horse care in Metin2. How often your horse needs to be fed depends directly on the horse level: The lower the level, the more often feeding is required. Higher-level horses can go longer without food.

Different horse types require different food. You can find out which food your horse needs from the Horse Care Manual or the Wiki. Make sure you always have a supply of the right food in your inventory, especially if you're planning longer farming sessions.

Reviving your horse: Herbs from the Monkey Dungeon

If your horse has starved, this is not a permanent loss. You can revive it with a special reviving herb. These herbs are dropped by the monkey bosses in the Monkey Dungeons – there are easy, medium and hard versions of the dungeon, and each horse type requires the corresponding herb.

Here's how to proceed if your horse has died:

  1. Get the appropriate herb from the Monkey Dungeon (easy, medium or hard – depending on horse type)
  2. Go to the Stable Master
  3. Use the herb with the Stable Master to revive your horse

The horse dies exclusively from starvation – it is not in danger during combat. Those who rarely play their character should still check the feeding status regularly.

Horse sugar: Name and defence

Since the patch from 9 June 2009, there has been Horse Sugar in the item shop. It costs 49 Dragon Coins and brings two advantages:

Effects of horse sugar
Effect Details
Individual horse name Freely selectable name for your horse for 30 days
Defence bonus +20 defence value for the horse

Horse sugar is particularly interesting for players who want to give their riding mount a personal touch and at the same time gain a small defensive advantage. The horse's defence value becomes primarily relevant when the horse is used in combat, but doesn't hurt in any situation.

Other riding mounts: Events and item shop

The classic horse is just the beginning. Metin2 offers a large selection of alternative riding mounts that are regularly available through events and the item shop. These mounts differ optically from the standard horse and can bring special designs or animations.

If you don't want to miss the latest riding mounts, you should regularly keep an eye on the event announcements from Gameforge. Some mounts are only available for a short time and are then removed from the range.

Frequently asked questions

From what level can I get a horse in Metin2?

You can start the horse quest with the Stable Master from level 25. After successful completion and payment, you receive your first horse.

How much mana does calling a horse cost?

That depends on the horse type: Normal horse costs 100 MP, the war horse 200 MP and the military horse 300 MP per call attempt.

Does my horse die in combat?

No. In Metin2, the horse dies exclusively from starvation, not from combat damage. Regular feeding is enough to keep it alive.

Where do I get the herb to revive my starved horse?

The required herbs are dropped by the monkey bosses in the Monkey Dungeons (easy, medium, hard). Which herb you need depends on your horse type. The revival itself takes place at the Stable Master.

What does horse sugar provide and how much does it cost?

Horse sugar costs 49 Dragon Coins in the item shop. It allows you to give your horse an individual name for 30 days and increases the horse's defence value by +20.

How can I level my horse quickly?

With the Scroll of Oblivion, you can level up your horse directly and without waiting time. One scroll costs 25 Dragon Coins (DR) in the item shop.

How often do I need to feed my horse?

The feeding frequency depends on the horse level. Low-level horses need to be fed more often than higher-level ones. Regularly check the feeding status in the Horse Care Manual.

Are there other riding mounts in Metin2 besides horses?

Yes. In addition to the classic horse, there are numerous other riding mounts available either through time-limited events or directly in the item shop for Dragon Coins.
