TL;DR: In Metin2, you can start the horse quest with the stable master from level 25 and get your own horse. The horse significantly increases movement speed and must be fed regularly.

The horse in Metin2 is the classic mount and can be unlocked from level 25 onwards. It is significantly faster than travelling on foot and is therefore one of the most important items for efficient levelling and farming. You get started with the horse quest from the stable master – once you have successfully completed the quest and have the necessary Yang, the horse is yours. In addition to the normal horse, there are other mounts available through events or the item shop.

Requirements: When Can You Get a Horse?

The most important requirement is simple: you must have reached at least level 25. Only then will the stable master unlock the horse quest for you. Speak to the stable master, accept the quest and complete the required tasks. Once the quest is successfully completed and you have the necessary funds, you will receive your first horse.

Important to know: The horse is not an indestructible item. It can starve if you neglect to feed it. More on this in the food section.

The Horse Care Manual

When you click on your horse in your inventory, the Horse Care Manual opens. Through this menu you control all important actions related to your mount. The following options are available:

The manual is therefore your central point of contact for daily horse care. Call it up regularly to keep an eye on your horse's hunger status.

Taming Horses: The "Call Horse" Skill

The "Call Horse" skill determines how well you can summon your horse. Each summoning attempt costs mana points – the exact amount depends on the horse type:

Mana costs of calling the horse by horse type
Horse Type Mana Cost per Summoning Attempt
Normal Horse 100 MP
War Horse 200 MP
Military Horse 300 MP

The "Call Horse" skill improves through riding itself – the more often you call and ride your horse, the higher the skill level rises. A higher level increases the success rate when calling.

Feeding Your Horse: Food and Care Obligations

Your horse must be fed regularly to stay alive. If feeding is neglected for too long, the horse will starve – this is the only way a horse can die. Combat does not harm it.

Two factors determine how often your horse needs to be fed:

Make sure you always have a supply of the correct food in your inventory before starting longer farming sessions. If you leave your horse unattended overnight, you risk finding it dead the next day.

Reviving Your Horse: Herb from the Monkey Dungeon

If your horse has starved, all is not lost. You can revive it with a special herb, which you must then use with the stable master. The required herbs are dropped by the boss monkeys in the monkey dungeons (MD):

Reviving the horse – herb by horse type and MD difficulty
Monkey Dungeon Difficulty Herb for
Easy MD Easy Normal Horse
Medium MD Medium War Horse
Hard MD Hard Military Horse

After the drop, go to the stable master and use the herb there to revive your horse. Reviving directly from your inventory is not possible.

Levelling Your Horse: Scroll of Oblivion & Regular Riding

Your horse gains experience through regular riding – the more you ride, the more experience your horse accumulates. Those who want to speed things up use the Scroll of Oblivion. This allows you to level your horse directly without waiting time.

Each Scroll of Oblivion equals 25 DR (Dark Rings) per use. This makes it an efficient but costly way to level your horse quickly. A higher horse level brings benefits beyond the extended satiation period for your mount.

Horse Sugar: Name and Defence

Since the patch of 9 June 2009, Horse Sugar has been available in the item shop. It costs 49 Dragon Coins and is valid for 30 days. Horse Sugar has two effects:

Horse Sugar is particularly interesting for players who want to give their horse a personal touch whilst also receiving a small defensive boost. After 30 days, the effect expires and you will need to buy a new Horse Sugar if you want to keep the name and bonus.

Alternative Mounts

The classic horse is not the only way to move around faster. In Metin2 there is a wide selection of other mounts available through various means:

These alternative mounts differ visually and sometimes in their bonuses from the standard horse. If you want to maximise your choices, you should regularly check the Metin2 Events and browse the item shop.
