In Metin2 you unlock the skill system from Level 5 onwards: You choose your discipline, immediately receive four skill points and from then on gain one additional point with each further level. You distribute these points among the six special skills of your chosen discipline. Anyone who sets their points incorrectly can reset them up to Level 30 at the Old Woman for a Yang fee. This guide explains the complete system – from your first point to the reset.
The skill system at a glance
Skills are your character's special abilities. Each skill costs mana points when used and has an individual cooldown after activation. The higher a skill's level, the stronger its effect. Additionally, the effect of certain skills can be further improved through special items.
As soon as you invest at least one point in a skill, you can drag it onto the quick access bar at the bottom of the screen. From there you activate it with keys 1–4 or F1–F4, via right-click or by placing it directly on your left or right mouse button.
Skill points: How you get them
Your first batch of skill points comes from the quest "Training" at Level 5 – four points all at once. After that it's: +1 point per level gained. There are no other regular sources for skill points in the base system, so every point counts.
The skills window shows you at all times how many points you still have available and how your skills are currently distributed. You can also see mounted combat skills, the combo option and language skills for other kingdoms there.
Choosing a discipline: Two specialisations per class
Each of the five classes in Metin2 has two disciplines with six unique skills each. Through the quest "Training" you commit to one of these disciplines. This decision shapes your entire playstyle – offensive or defensive focus, single target or area damage.
As an example, the two Warrior disciplines:
| Body Warrior | Type | Mental Warrior | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sword Aura | Attack buff (STR-based) | Strong Body | Defence buff |
| Battle Frenzy | Speed buff | Sword Slash | Stun + area damage |
| Three-way Cut | Triple quick attack | Stomp | Stun chance + area |
| Sword Whirl | Strong area damage | Breakthrough | Area damage |
| Rush | Stun attack + speed | Heavy Blow | Area damage |
| Will to Live | Frontal attack | – | – |
| Earthquake | Frontal attack | – | – |
The Body Warrior relies on speed, direct damage and control through stuns. The Mental Warrior is more defensively oriented, loses movement speed through Strong Body, but cannot fall over from Level Master onwards.
Increasing skill level: Books and the 24-hour cycle
Skills are increased not just through points but also through skill books. You can read all skill books in parallel – however, there is a 24-hour cooldown per book. If you don't want to wait, there's an alternative: the Exorcism Scroll, which bypasses the cooldown.
Depending on the remaining cooldown time, the game displays different messages explaining why you can't read a book again – this is not a bug but intentional balancing.
Counter, boost and other skills
Besides class-specific skills, there are other types in the skills window:
- Counter skills: Once you master a counter skill, you unlock a boost skill.
- Boost skills: Become selectable after mastering the counter skill.
- Combo: Extends your attack sequence by up to two additional hits.
- Languages: At Level M1 you understand players from the other kingdom. Your own kingdom's language is not displayed.
- Mounted combat: Shows your current horse level.
Resetting skills: Costs and procedure
If you've distributed points incorrectly – for example putting more than 17 points into a single skill (called "misspent") – you can reset all skill points at the Old Woman up to and including Level 30. You get every point back but lose progress from master levels (M2–M10) and any master levels already achieved.
The reset costs exactly 20,000 Yang at Level 5. For each additional level, add 2,000 Yang.
| Level | Cost in Yang |
|---|---|
| 5 | 20,000 |
| 10 | 30,000 |
| 15 | 40,000 |
| 20 | 50,000 |
| 25 | 60,000 |
| 30 | 70,000 |
Important: It's not guaranteed that a skill will toggle after exactly 17 points. If it doesn't toggle, you can repeat the reset at the Old Woman immediately – without losing a skill point. Alternatively, the Skill Reallocation (Skill Reset Document) or the corresponding item from the shop can help.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Misspending: Putting more than 17 points into a single skill blocks the toggle to the next level. Stick to the 17-point limit.
- Choosing a discipline too hastily: The quest "Training" locks you in. Research which discipline suits your playstyle beforehand.
- Forgetting books: Read skill books daily. The 24-hour cooldown runs whether you're online or not.
- Wanting to reset only after Level 30: The free reset at the Old Woman is only available up to Level 30. After that you need the Skill Reallocation item.
Frequently asked questions about the skill system
From what level can I use skills?
From Level 5 onwards. There you start the quest "Training", choose your discipline and immediately receive four skill points to distribute.
What is the Flying Talisman in Metin2?
The Flying Talisman is an item in the game. The English wiki refers here to international language versions; for detailed values and locations, best check the current in-game tooltip or the official wiki in your language.
How many skill points do I get in total?
You start with 4 points at Level 5 and receive one additional point per level after that. The total number depends directly on your character's current level.
What does "misspent" mean and how do I fix it?
Misspent means distributing more than 17 skill points to a single skill. This prevents the toggle to the next level. You can fix it with a reset at the Old Woman (up to Level 30) or with the Skill Reallocation item.
What does skill reset cost at the Old Woman?
At Level 5 the reset costs 20,000 Yang. For each additional level, add 2,000 Yang – so 70,000 Yang at Level 30, the last possible level for this reset.
How do I bypass the 24-hour cooldown when reading skill books?
With an Exorcism Scroll you can skip the waiting period. Without this item you must wait for the cooldown to pass before you can read the same book again.
Can I change my discipline after choosing it?
No. The discipline is permanently set through the quest "Training". If you want to try a different discipline, you must create a new character.
How do I activate a skill quickly in combat?
Drag the skill onto the quick access bar at the bottom of the screen. Assign it to keys 1–4 or F1–F4. Alternatively, you can place skills directly on your left or right mouse button.
