EXP Basics & Character Progression

Experience points (EXP) in Metin2 are primarily generated by eliminating monsters and completing quests. The interface visualises current progress via four EXP orbs at the bottom of the screen. When your character dies, there is a risk of losing up to 3% (level-dependent) of the EXP required for the next level. The regular maximum level is Level 120 (at which you can still collect a maximum of 25% experience to read skill books), after which the Champion Level system begins.

Rewards per level increase

With each level increase (or by filling individual EXP orbs), your character receives two fundamental point types that are awarded up to Level 90/120:

Stat Points (VIT, INT, STR, DEX)

With each partial level increase (when filling the 25%, 50% and 75% orbs), the character receives a stat point, up to a maximum of 3 stat points per full level.

  • Maximum distribution: Each stat attribute can be skilled natively to a maximum of 90 points (excluding equipment bonuses). Up to Level 90 (at exactly 75% EXP), a total of 286 stat points can be freely distributed.
  • The attributes: Vitality (VIT), Intelligence (INT), Strength (STR) and Dexterity (DEX).

Skill Points (Normal Level)

From character level 5 onwards (after choosing your class), the character receives 1 skill point with each full level increase (at level 5 directly 4 points) to distribute to base abilities. Once a skill has been fed enough points (regularly between level 16 and 21), it jumps to Master level (M1).

Advanced Skill Progression (M to P)

Once a skill has reached Master level, it is completely decoupled from character level. Further development runs through its own systems:

  • Master Level (M1 to M10): Progression occurs exclusively through reading skill books (FB) for that particular ability. For the automatic jump to Grand Master (G1), a total of 55 books must be successfully read (cost: 20,000 EXP per book; ~24h cooldown).
  • Grand Master Level (G1 to P): Progression to Perfect Master (P) no longer requires books, but instead requires successfully reading 10 Soul Stones. This system consumes incrementally increasing rank points instead of EXP (1,000 to 5,500 points per level).

Experience Calculation & Modifiers

The experience received per monster is dynamic and is determined primarily by the level difference between character and opponent (Relative EXP).

  • Calculation basis: Higher-value opponents grant more experience than lower ones. The final credit is always mathematically rounded down in the game.
  • Cap: Regardless of active boosts or events, a single defeated monster can provide a maximum of 20% of the total EXP required for the next level increase.
  • Random bonus: If there is a chance for an EXP bonus through equipment, the received base experience is increased by an additional 30% upon successful trigger.

Server Events & The "Power of Wisdom" Event

In addition to permanent items and equipment bonuses, temporary events provide the most effective foundation for quickly achieving level increases.

  • Server Events: Gameforge regularly activates server-wide boosts that usually range between +50% and +200% EXP. Since these in-game events work multiplicatively with your own rings and potions, event weekends offer the mathematically best foundation for efficient levelling.
  • "Power of Wisdom" Event (Uriel's EXP Event): During this special event, players can pick up a free EXP bonus from NPC Uriel via the "Power of Wisdom" dialogue. This system is designed to be highly dynamic:
  • Variable bonuses: The exact amount of EXP bonus is not fixed, but can vary from event to event. Additionally, different level ranges often receive different EXP bonuses assigned.
  • Variable duration: How long the buff remains active varies depending on the event season and in some cases can be completely randomly generated.

Experience Points in Groups

When group members are within sight, the generated experience is shared. The group leader can switch between two progression models in the menu:

  • Equal: The total EXP of defeated monsters is divided linearly by the number of all present group members.
  • Level-dependent: Distribution occurs proportionally to the level of individual characters. This means: higher levels in the team automatically receive a larger percentage share of the total group EXP than lower levels.
  • Example: In a mixed group, a character at level 72 mathematically receives a share of approximately 34% of the total group EXP, while a lower level 55 in the same team receives just under 26%.

High-End Progression: Champion Level & Yohara

Upon reaching Level 120, normal character progression stops and switches to Champion Level (Stage 1 to 30).

Champion Mechanic Details & Effects
Zone Lock Champion EXP can be generated exclusively on the Yohara continent. On normal maps, the system blocks progress.
Stat Points Each filled Champion EXP orb grants a point for SungMa Will (split into STR, RES, VIT, INT) to counter the zone debuffs.
9th Skill To learn and master the powerful 9th class skill, Champion EXP is required as a progression base.
Experience Loss When dying on Yohara, there is a chance to lose 1% Champion EXP. This loss is halved by an equipped Tear of the Goddess and can be completely blocked by a Dragon Medal or Dragon Medal+.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I still obtain stat points beyond level 90?

No. The receipt of regular stat points stops permanently once you reach level 90 and fill the 75% orb (a total of 286 distributed points). Further increases to your attributes are only possible afterwards through equipment bonuses, alchemy, or later through the Champion Level system (SungMa Will).

Can I lose normal EXP if I die on Yohara?

No. When your character dies on Yohara maps, you lose exclusively Champion EXP (provided the protection does not apply). If you die on the regular continents, however, you lose normal experience as usual.

Why am I getting 0 EXP from some monsters despite having EXP rings?

This is due to the Relative EXP system. When the level difference between your character and the monster is too large (you are significantly overlevelled), the percentage base value of the monster decreases. Since the game always rounds down in the EXP calculation, the value eventually becomes exactly 0 – percentage amplifiers cannot change this.
