Books in Metin2 are consumable items that either increase a skill's level when read or simply fail – and they fail very, very often. Every book disappears after reading, regardless of the outcome. There are different book categories: skill books for active and passive skills, combo books, as well as books for Leadership, Inspiration, Charisma, Language and Transformation. If you want to progress in Metin2, you cannot avoid the books system.

How Books Work in Metin2

The basic principle is simple: you read a book, and either your skill level increases or nothing happens. The book is consumed in either case. The success rate is intentionally kept low – this makes books a central resource and economic factor in the game.

Important to know: books from chests reportedly have a higher success chance than normal drop books. However, this does not mean they are so-called Master skill books. To level up Master skills, you need Soul Stones instead – normal skill books are not sufficient for that.

Skill Books – Drops and Usage

Skill books – for example the Dragon Shot Skill Book – are primarily dropped by Metins. • Level 30: The first combo book can be read.
• Level 50: The second combo book can be read.

Combo is particularly important in PvP and fast grinding, since a longer attack sequence enables more damage in a short time. If you want to play seriously, you should not ignore these books.

Books from Chests – Are They Worth It?

Chests exist in the game from which books can be obtained. According to player experience, these chest books are supposed to have a higher success chance when reading than normally dropped books. No officially confirmed value exists for this in the Wiki, but the player community regards this as a known mechanic.

Important: Chest books are also not Master skill books and do not work for Master skill advancement. If you plan to level your skills into the Master range, you should save chest books for other purposes.

Pet Skill Books

In addition to classic books for character skills, Metin2 also has a separate system for Pet Skill Books. These boost your companion's (Pet) abilities and follow their own book series. The Pet system is independent of the normal skill system – but the mechanics of reading (success or failure, book is consumed) remain the same.

If you actively use a Pet, you should invest in Pet skill books early on, as a well-developed Pet provides noticeable advantages as you progress through the game.

• Build a supply: Never read a single book and hope for success. First collect multiple copies of the same book before you start reading.
• Use trading: Books that are hard to farm directly can often be obtained more cheaply through player trading than by farming them yourself.
• Set priorities: Level up the skills most important to your build first. Not every skill needs to be maxed immediately.
• Plan Master levels separately: Plan Soul Stones in advance for the jump into Master range – normal books won't help here.
• Don't forget combo: Combo books are often overlooked. Once you reach level 30, you should use the first combo book soon after.
• Use chest books strategically: If chest books have a higher success chance, use them for skills where failures hurt the most.
