Building Your Military
Military in Ikariam begins with researching Weaponry and building a Barracks. Initially recruit Swordsmen as a versatile unit. Gradually expand with Phalanx for defence and Archers for attacks. Plan your military budget realistically — an army you cannot afford will be disbanded.
Understanding the Combat System
Battles are turn-based. Units are arranged in three rows: front, flank and ranged. Heavy units are automatically placed at the front, ranged units fire from a safe distance. The defender's Town Wall acts as an additional layer of protection. Each round all units attack simultaneously — the battle ends when one side is completely defeated or the attacker retreats.
Attack Planning
Before attacking, scout the target. The Workshop enables spies that reveal enemy troops, resources and wall level. Plan your army based on the spy report. Send enough troops for a decisive victory — a narrow win with heavy losses is rarely worthwhile.
Raiding vs. Occupation
Raiding captures resources and is the most common form of attack. The attacker takes what is not protected by the Hideout. Occupation is more demanding — you need an overwhelming force and must station troops permanently. Occupation is only worthwhile for strategically important targets such as World Wonder islands.
Alliance Wars
Coordinated attacks with alliance members are the most effective military strategy. Plan simultaneous attacks from different directions, combine land and sea attacks, and secure your own towns against retaliation strikes. Communication via the alliance forum or external channels is essential.
