Function of the Town Hall

The Town Hall is the central administration building of every town in Ikariam. It determines how many residents your town can have at most. Each upgrade level increases this limit and unlocks new building slots. Without a sufficiently upgraded Town Hall, you can neither provide enough workers nor employ enough researchers.

Besides the population limit, the Town Hall shows an overview of all ongoing construction orders, troop movements and current satisfaction. It is your control centre where you read the pulse of your town and track incoming trade deliveries.

Upgrade Strategi

In the early phase, the Town Hall should always be at least two levels above the Academy. Each research requires researchers from your population — without enough residents, research stalls. A Town Hall at level 3 with an Academy at level 1 is a good starting point.

From level 5, you can build the Governor's Residence which provides passive bonuses to production and satisfaction. From level 8, the Town Wall becomes available. Plan upgrades ahead: each level costs more wood and takes longer. Start large upgrades before bed so the construction time runs overnight.

With each Town Hall level, the number of building slots also increases. At higher levels, you can build additional warehouses, barracks or workshops. Plan these slots strategically — a building slot once occupied can only be freed through demolition.

Population and Worker Distribution

Every resident can be deployed as a worker in production buildings or as a researcher in the Academy. Unemployed citizens pay taxes in gold. Initially more workers go to the sawmill, later more into research.

The rule of thumb: assign as many workers as possible to production buildings until all slots are filled. Remaining residents become researchers or taxpayers. In mid-game, you specialise individual towns — one mainly produces, another mainly researches.

Nejte: researchers consume research points proportional to Academy level. An Academy level 6 with only three researchers is less efficient than an Academy level 3 with full slots.

Managing Satisfaction

Satisfaction is controlled by the Tavern and wine supply. If it drops below 100%, some residents leave the town. Keep the Tavern sufficiently upgraded and ensure a steady wine supply.

In practice, it is enough to upgrade the Tavern alongside the Town Hall and always have a wine buffer of at least 24 hours' consumption in storage. Satisfaction can also exceed 100% — this brings accelerated population growth. Invest in the Tavern when you need more residents quickly.

Planning Town Hall Upgrades

Construction costs increase exponentially with each level. From level 10 onwards, you need marble in large quantities alongside wood. Build up a resource stockpile before starting the upgrade. Use the marketplace to buy marble short-term if necessary.
