Why an Alliance is Important
Ikariam is not a single-player game. Alliances offer mutual protection, shared trade networks and coordinated military operations. Without an alliance, you are an easy target for organised groups. Most top players on every server are organised in strong alliances — lone wolves have a much harder time surviving long-term.
The most important advantage of an alliance: deterrence. An attack on an alliance member is an attack on the entire alliance. Potential attackers think twice about risking a conflict with 20 or more players. This deterrence alone is often worth more than any city wall.
Finding the Right Alliance
When choosing, pay attention to activity (regularly online members), size (at least 10 active players) and location (members in your region are advantageous for quick help). Alliance forums and shared communication channels like Discord are signs of good organisation.
Don't join the first alliance you find. Look at the player profiles of its members, observe their activity for a few days and ask in the alliance chat before joining. A bad alliance can be worse than none — if it provokes wars you can't win, you suffer along with it.
Pay attention to the alliance's diplomatic relations. Does it have pacts with other alliances? Are there active wars? An alliance at war can be exciting but also means risk for your cities. For beginners, peaceful alliances focused on trade and shared growth are ideal.
Alliance Duties and Benefits
As a member, you help defend attacked allies and contribute to shared trade. In return, you receive protection, resource aid and access to coordinated operations. God alliances share knowledge about game mechanics, optimal strategies and server meta-strategies.
Many alliances have internal trade agreements: fixed exchange rates, resource banks and emergency aid during attacks. Experienced members mentor newcomers and help with city building. The social component — achieving goals together, discussing strategies, fighting enemies in a coordinated way — is the core of the Ikariam experience for many players.
Founding Your Own Alliance
Founding your own alliance is possible but demanding. You need active recruitment, a clear alliance strategy and diplomatic skill. For most players, it makes more sense to join an existing alliance and gain experience there before founding your own.

Founding Your Own Alliance
Founding an alliance requires leadership qualities. You need at least 5 to 10 active founding members, a clear structure and communication channels. Expect weeks before reaching a relevant server size. For beginners, joining is usually the better option. Don't join the first alliance you find — observe activity and diplomatic relations first.
