TL;DR: The True Mushroom is an herbalism item in Metin2 required for the quest "The Biologist's Investigation". NPC Chaegirab sends players between levels 4 and 25 to collect special research herbs.

The True Mushroom in Metin2 is a special herbalism item that exclusively plays a role within the quest series "The Biologist's Investigation". It carries the designation "Research" and can only be dropped by certain monsters during the associated quest. If you want to master herbalism completely, you need to familiarise yourself with the biologist Chaegirab, the quest system, and the three herbalism NPCs Baek-Go, Yu-Hwan and Huahn-So. This guide explains everything you need to know.

What is Herbalism in Metin2?

Herbalism was introduced to Metin2 with the patch of 17 July 2007. It is a game system that allows characters to have various potions brewed from collected herbs. There are three tiers of potions: basic potions, advanced potions and expert potions. Which potions a player can have brewed depends on which herbalism NPC they visit.

Basically, the game distinguishes between two types of herbs: herbs designated as "Potion Crafting" (for normal potion brewing) and herbs designated as "Research" (exclusively for the quests of biologist Chaegirab). These two types are not interchangeable – research herbs cannot be used for potion crafting, and Chaegirab only accepts research herbs.

The True Mushroom: Research Herb for Chaegirab

The True Mushroom is one of the special herbs marked with the designation "Research". It is required within the quest "The Biologist's Investigation (True Mushrooms)", which is part of the overarching herbalism quest series. The following points are important when collecting the True Mushroom:

The quest system is designed so that players between level 4 and level 25 are sent out multiple times by Chaegirab to collect various herbs – including the True Mushroom – and bring them back.

The Biologist Chaegirab: Quest Giver for Research Herbs

Biologist Chaegirab is located on Map1 in a small camp. He is the central NPC for the entire research quest series surrounding herbalism. His quests are aimed at players in the level range 4 to 25 and he sends the player out multiple times to procure different quantities of special herbs.

Important to know: Chaegirab only accepts herbs designated as "Research". Normal potion herbs are not accepted by him. Whoever wants to complete the herbalism quest series must fulfil all research tasks with Chaegirab.

The Three Herbalism NPCs Compared

For normal potion brewing (with potion crafting herbs), there are three different NPCs in Metin2 with different abilities and locations. The further you progress in the game, the better potions you can have brewed.

Herbalism NPCs at a Glance
NPC Location Potion Tiers Special Feature
Baek-Go Village 1 (Map1) Basic Potions "Herbalism" option only available after quest "Ingredient for Medicine"; Level 15 required
Yu-Hwan Village 2 (Map2) Basic Potions & Advanced Potions Brews all basic and advanced potions
Huahn-So Village 2 (Map2) & Donga Plain Village Basic, Advanced & Expert Potions Only NPC who can brew expert potions

If you're after expert potions, you can't get around Huahn-So – he's the only NPC in the game who offers this highest potion tier. He can be found in both Village 2 and the Donga Plain Village.

Potion Tiers in Herbalism

The herbalism system knows three potion categories. Which ones you can have brewed depends on which NPC you visit:

Potion Tiers and Available NPCs
Potion Tier Available from
Basic Potions Baek-Go, Yu-Hwan, Huahn-So
Advanced Potions Yu-Hwan, Huahn-So
Expert Potions Huahn-So only

To have potions brewed by Baek-Go in the first place, the quest "Ingredient for Medicine" must have been completed first. Additionally, Level 15 is listed as a minimum requirement with him. The herbalism options at the NPCs are generally only unlocked once certain prerequisites with the respective NPC are met.

Tips for Collecting Research Herbs

Collecting True Mushrooms and other research herbs follows clear rules. Here are the most important tips that will save you time and frustration:

The Herbalism Quest Series Overview

The entire herbalism quest series consists of several individual quests that are picked up sequentially from biologist Chaegirab. The quest around the True Mushroom bears the official title "The Biologist's Investigation (True Mushrooms)" and is part of this chain. The series covers various herb types and guides players through the basics of herbalism.

The entry point to herbalism for normal potion brewing, on the other hand, is through Baek-Go in Village 1. The "Herbalism" option appears with him only after the quest "Ingredient for Medicine" has been completed. After that, the path to brewing basic potions is open.

Frequently Asked Questions About Herbalism and the True Mushroom

What is the True Mushroom in Metin2?

The True Mushroom is an herbalism item designated as "Research". It is required exclusively for the quest "The Biologist's Investigation (True Mushrooms)" with biologist Chaegirab and can only be dropped by monsters whilst this quest is active.

Where do I find biologist Chaegirab?

Chaegirab is located on Map1 in a small camp. He is the quest giver for all research herb quests and is aimed at players between level 4 and level 25.

Can I use the True Mushroom for potions?

No. Research herbs like the True Mushroom cannot be used for potion crafting. They are exclusively intended for the quests of biologist Chaegirab.

Why aren't any True Mushrooms dropping?

Research herbs only drop when the associated quest is active. Additionally, you can only collect as many herbs as you can still turn in to Chaegirab – once this limit is reached, no further drops occur.

From what level can I have potions brewed with Baek-Go?

To have potions brewed by Baek-Go, you must have reached at least level 15. Additionally, the quest "Ingredient for Medicine" must be completed so that the herbalism option with him is unlocked.

Who can brew expert potions?

What happens if Chaegirab won't accept the herbs?

The turn-in of research herbs to Chaegirab can fail because not every herb is deemed suitable. In this case, you must collect herbs again and retry the turn-in.

Where is Baek-Go located?

Baek-Go is located in Village 1 on Map1. He can only brew basic potions and is the first herbalism NPC that new players encounter.
