What are Spirit Stones and why do I need them?
Spirit Stones are consumable upgrade items in Metin2 that you socket directly into equipment to improve its values. You can socket them into armour, weapons, gloves or shoes – but only if the item has at least one empty socket. Depending on the stone type and slot, you'll receive different bonuses. Beyond equipment upgrades, Spirit Stones are also consumed as materials during ore refinement at the Alchemist.
The so-called Stone of Monsters is one of the available Spirit Stone types and is aimed at players who want to improve their protection or effectiveness against monster opponents.
Socketing Spirit Stones – How it works
Socketing a Spirit Stone is simple: you drag the stone from your inventory directly onto the weapon or armour you want to enhance. The item must also be in your inventory.
When socketing, there are two possible outcomes:
- Success: The Spirit Stone enhances the item by the specified value and sits permanently in the socket.
- Failure: The stone shatters and leaves a stone shard in the socket. The socket is now blocked.
Important: A failure doesn't mean your equipment is lost. Shards can be removed – but it costs something.
Removing Stone Shards – Three Methods
When a Spirit Stone shatters during socketing, the stone shard blocks the socket. There are three ways to get rid of it:
| Method | Removes Shard | Removes socketed Spirit Stone | Get Stone Back | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blacksmith | Yes | No | – | Yang fee |
| Shard Remover (Item Shop) | Yes | No | – | 29 DR |
| Spirit Stone Scroll | No (leaves shard) | Yes | Yes | Scroll required |
| Spirit Stone Extraction (Item Shop) | Yes | Yes | Yes | 49 DR |
Note on Spirit Stone Scroll: It retrieves the socketed Spirit Stone but leaves stone shards in the socket. These must then be removed separately. The Item Shop extraction for 49 DR handles both in one step and returns the stone to you.
Important: If the Shard Remover fails during use, the shards are not removed – the risk continues.
Where do you farm Spirit Stones?
Spirit Stones drop exclusively from specific Metins and one special boss. Here are the exact rules:
- Spirit Stones drop from Metins at Level 25+, so from the Blackness Metin onwards.
- The Great Ice Witch also drops Spirit Stones.
- All smaller Metins do not drop Spirit Stones.
- Metins in the following areas drop no Spirit Stones: Demon Tower, Dragon Chamber, Nemere's Watch, Red Dragon Fortress and The Devil's Catacomb.
For efficient farming, you should focus on Blackness Metins and higher in normal areas. Dungeon Metins are not worth farming for Spirit Stones.
Spirit Stones for Ore Refinement at the Alchemist
Besides equipment upgrades, Spirit Stones have a second important use: ore refinement at the Alchemist. To refine ores, you need the ore itself, a Yang fee and a Spirit Stone (from +0 to +3).
Example from the Wiki: If you want to process 100 Ebony Ore at the Diamond Alchemist into Ebony, you must use a Spirit Stone in addition to the ore and the Yang fee. The Spirit Stone is completely destroyed during refinement – you don't get it back.
This means: Spirit Stones aren't just relevant for equipment upgrades, but also for the alchemy system. Always keep a supply ready if you're actively using both systems.
Practical Tips for Spirit Stone Use
- Check sockets: Before socketing a stone, check the number of empty sockets on your equipment. Items without empty sockets cannot be enhanced.
- Shard management: Use the Blacksmith to cheaply remove shards. For rare or expensive equipment, the Item Shop extraction is worth it because you get the stone back.
- Spirit Stone Scroll vs. Extraction: The scroll returns the stone but leaves shards. If you want to clean everything up, use the Item Shop extraction.
- Farming focus: Farm Spirit Stones specifically at Blackness Metins and higher outside dungeons. Dungeon Metins don't provide Spirit Stones.
- Alchemy supply: If you plan to refine ores regularly, always keep Spirit Stones in storage – they're consumed permanently during refinement.
Frequently Asked Questions about Spirit Stones in Metin2
What happens if a Spirit Stone shatters when socketing?
On failure, the Spirit Stone leaves a stone shard in the socket. The socket is blocked and must first be cleaned at the Blacksmith or via Item Shop item before you can socket another stone.
Can I remove a socketed Spirit Stone?
Yes. Use the Spirit Stone Scroll or Spirit Stone Extraction from the Item Shop (49 DR) for this. Both methods return the stone to you. However, the Scroll leaves stone shards that you must remove separately afterwards.
Which Metins drop Spirit Stones?
Spirit Stones drop from Metins at Level 25+ (Blackness Metin and higher) and from the Great Ice Witch. Smaller Metins and all Metins in dungeons (Demon Tower, Dragon Chamber, Nemere's Watch, Red Dragon Fortress, The Devil's Catacomb) do not drop Spirit Stones.
Which equipment slots can I socket Spirit Stones into?
Spirit Stones can be socketed into armour, weapons, gloves and shoes, provided these have at least one empty socket.
What's the difference between Shard Remover and Spirit Stone Extraction?
The Shard Remover (29 DR) only removes stone shards from failed socketing attempts. Spirit Stone Extraction (49 DR) removes a successfully socketed Spirit Stone completely and returns it to you – including shard cleanup in one step.
Are Spirit Stones consumed at the Alchemist?
Yes, completely. When you have ores refined at the Alchemist, the socketed Spirit Stone (from +0 to +3) is irrevocably destroyed. You don't get it back.
What is the Stone of Monsters?
The Stone of Monsters (also known as "Stone of Monsters") is a specific Spirit Stone type in Metin2. It belongs to the family of Spirit Stones and can be socketed into equipment with empty sockets.
Is it worth farming Spirit Stones in dungeons?
No. Metins in Demon Tower, Dragon Chamber, Nemere's Watch, Red Dragon Fortress and Devil's Catacomb do not drop Spirit Stones. For efficient farming, stick to Blackness Metins and higher in normal areas.
