TL;DR: Spirit Stones enhance armour, weapons, gloves and shoes in free sockets and drop from Metin level 25 onwards. Failed attempts create shards that must be removed separately.

Spirit Stones are items in Metin2 that are inserted into equipment pieces with free sockets to permanently increase their values. You can insert them into armour, weapons, gloves and shoes – provided the respective piece has at least one open socket. When inserting, there's a success chance: on success, the bonus applies; on failure, the stone breaks and leaves a stone shard in the socket. This guide explains all the mechanics – from the right farming route to safe shard removal.

How do Spirit Stones work in Metin2?

To insert a Spirit Stone, you drag it directly from your inventory onto the desired equipment piece. This must also be in your inventory and have at least one free socket. Then one of two things happens:

A Spirit Stone always occupies exactly one socket. Items with multiple sockets can hold multiple stones, with each socket being filled individually.

Where to farm: Drop sources for Spirit Stones

Spirit Stones drop exclusively from certain Metins and one special boss. Not every Metin in the game gives stones – there are clear restrictions:

Drop sources for Spirit Stones in Metin2
Source Drops Spirit Stones? Note
Metins level 25+ (Darkness Metin and higher) ✅ Yes From Darkness Metin upwards
Great Ice Witch ✅ Yes Special boss drop
Lower Metins (below level 25) ❌ No No drop
Metins in Demon Tower ❌ No Explicitly excluded
Metins in Dragon's Lair ❌ No Explicitly excluded
Metins in Nemere's Keep ❌ No Explicitly excluded
Metins in Red Dragon Fortress ❌ No Explicitly excluded
Metins in The Devil's Catacomb ❌ No Explicitly excluded

The most important rule of thumb: Those who want to farm Spirit Stones efficiently should focus on field Metins level 25 and above in normal play areas. Dungeon Metins in the mentioned instances are not a worthwhile farming option for this purpose.

Removing stone shards – how to do it right

A common problem: failed insertion attempts create stone shards that get stuck in the socket and block it. There are several ways to remove them:

Important note: When a Spirit Stone Scroll fails, shards are not removed. This means: the scroll is not responsible for shard removal – you'll still need the blacksmith or the shop item for that.

Removing Spirit Stones from equipment

Sometimes you want to remove an already successfully inserted Spirit Stone – perhaps to insert it into a better item. There are two ways to do this:

Methods for removing inserted Spirit Stones
Method Cost Stone back? Shards back?
Spirit Stone Scroll (Item Shop) 49 DR ✅ Yes ❌ No – Shards remain
Special removal item (second option) Varies ✅ Yes Depends on method

The Spirit Stone Scroll (49 DR) returns the inserted stone but leaves stone shards in the socket. This is an important difference: those who use the scroll must then still have the shards removed by the blacksmith or shop item before they can insert new stones.

Using Spirit Stones in Alchemy

Besides inserting into equipment, Spirit Stones have a second use: the refinement of ores at alchemists. Spirit Stones of levels +0 to +3 are required as mandatory material when having ores refined by a competent alchemist.

Specifically, it works like this: you bring the ore (e.g. 100 Ebony Ore) to the appropriate alchemist (e.g. the Diamond Alchemist) and pay a Spirit Stone alongside the Yang fee. The stone is completely destroyed – it's gone afterwards, regardless of whether the refinement succeeds. This is a key difference from inserting into equipment, where the stone remains permanently on success and is preserved as a shard on failure.

Those who want to engage in alchemy regularly should therefore plan for a constant supply of Spirit Stones at the lower levels.

Tips for efficient Spirit Stone management

Frequently asked questions about Spirit Stones in Metin2

Which equipment pieces can I insert Spirit Stones into?

Spirit Stones can be inserted into armour, weapons, gloves and shoes – provided the respective item has at least one free socket.

What happens if inserting a Spirit Stone fails?

The stone breaks and leaves a stone shard in the socket. This blocks the slot until it's removed by the blacksmith or a corresponding shop item (29 DR).

Which Metins drop Spirit Stones?

Only Metins level 25 and above (from Darkness Metin onwards) and the Great Ice Witch drop Spirit Stones. Lower Metins and all Metins in dungeons such as Demon Tower, Dragon's Lair, Nemere's Keep, Red Dragon Fortress and The Devil's Catacomb don't drop Spirit Stones.

How do I get an inserted Spirit Stone back?

With the Spirit Stone Scroll (49 DR from the item shop) or an alternative removal item, you get the stone back. Note: with the scroll, stone shards remain in the socket and must be removed separately afterwards.

Does the Spirit Stone Scroll also remove stone shards?

No. The scroll removes the inserted Spirit Stone and returns it, but leaves stone shards behind. These must then be removed via the blacksmith or the 29 DR shop item.

Why do I need Spirit Stones in alchemy?

Spirit Stones of levels +0 to +3 are required as mandatory material when having ores refined by the appropriate alchemist. The stone used is completely destroyed in the process.

Can I remove stone shards myself or do I need an NPC?

Stone shards are removed either via the Blacksmith NPC or through a corresponding item from the item shop (29 DR). Without these means, shards remain permanently in the socket.

Is it worth buying Spirit Stones from the market instead of farming them?

It depends on your playtime and Yang reserves. Those who regularly farm field Metins level 25 and above get stones as a byproduct. For intensive alchemy projects with high consumption, purchasing via the player market can be worthwhile.
