What are Spirit Stones and what are they used for?

Spirit Stones are upgrade items in Metin2 that you insert into free sockets of weapons, armour, gloves or shoes. Each stone improves the item by a specific amount – provided the installation succeeds. You simply drag the Spirit Stone onto the desired item in your inventory. The result is either a successful upgrade or the stone breaks and leaves a stone shard in the socket.

Spirit Stones exist in levels +0 to +3. The higher the level, the stronger the bonus on the equipment item. The exact bonus depends on the Spirit Stone type and the respective slot (weapon, armour, glove, shoe).

Where do you farm Spirit Stones?

Spirit Stones drop exclusively from Metins at level 25 and above – specifically from the Stone of Darkness – and from the Great Ice Witch. Smaller Metins do not drop Spirit Stones. Spirit Stones also do not drop in the following dungeons and special areas:

If you want to farm Spirit Stones deliberately, focus on the stronger Metin stones at level 25 and above in the open world and avoid the mentioned dungeons as a primary farming source.

Inserting Spirit Stones – How it works

Inserting is simple: drag a Spirit Stone from your inventory directly onto a weapon or piece of armour that has at least one free socket. The game then automatically decides whether the insertion succeeds or fails.

• Success: The Spirit Stone is firmly anchored in the item and provides its bonus.
• Failure: The stone breaks and leaves a stone shard in the socket. The socket is now blocked.

Stone shards from failed attempts can be removed in two ways:

• Via the Blacksmith or a corresponding NPC in the game (free/in-game).
• With a special item from the Item Shop for 29 DR. Important: If this item fails, the shards are not removed.

Using Spirit Stones for alchemy

In addition to their use in equipment items, Spirit Stones play a second important role: ore refinement. When you have ore processed by a corresponding alchemist, you need a Spirit Stone (level +0 to +3) in addition to the ore and the Yang fee.

Example from the wiki: To process 100 Ebony Ore at the Diamond Alchemist to Ebony, you must use a Spirit Stone. This stone is completely destroyed during refinement – you do not get it back. Plan your Spirit Stone supply accordingly if you are actively practising alchemy.

The Spirit Stone Scroll – What it can and cannot do

The Spirit Stone Scroll is the main tool for removing inserted Spirit Stones from an item again. If you want to extract a Spirit Stone from a weapon or piece of armour, you use the scroll – and get the Spirit Stone back.

Important disadvantage: The Spirit Stone Scroll leaves stone shards in the socket after removing the stone. These must then be removed separately (Blacksmith or Item Shop item for 29 DR).

In contrast, there is another item – the Spirit Stone Paper from the Item Shop (for 49 DR) – that removes Spirit Stones without leaving shards behind. Which option you choose depends on your budget and how frequently you change stones.

Practical tips for dealing with Spirit Stones

• Count sockets: Check how many free sockets your item has before inserting. Shards permanently block sockets until they are cleaned.
• Keep costs in mind: If you change stones frequently, shard removal costs add up (29 DR per operation). Spirit Stone Paper (49 DR) can be cheaper in the long run.
• Build an alchemy reserve: Plan separate Spirit Stones for ore refinement – these are destroyed and cannot be reused.
• Set a farming goal: For efficient farming, seek out the strongest Metin stones at level 25 and above in the open world, not the dungeon Metins.
• Choose your level: Spirit Stones range from +0 to +3 – higher levels provide better bonuses but are rarer and more valuable. Lower levels are often sufficient for alchemy.
