The Metin2 Pet System allows you to summon animal companions that actively accompany your character and level up. There is no level restriction to get started – you can use a Pet as a beginner as long as the Pet's level does not exceed your character's level. Animal Seals serve as the central tool for summoning mounts, power mounts and pets into the game.
What are Animal Seals?
Animal Seals are items in Metin2 that are exclusively used to activate certain companions. With an Animal Seal you can:
- Summon mounts
- Activate power mounts
- Summon pets
The Animal Seal is therefore a basic requirement for you to use a companion at all. Without the appropriate seal, the pet remains inactive in the overview.
Open the Pet Overview
You have three ways to open the pet overview:
- Press the P hotkey
- Click on the status display of an already summoned pet
- Use the button in the chat bar
For quick access during combat, the P shortcut is recommended. This way you keep an overview without having to navigate through menus.
Incubating Pet Eggs: Getting Started
New pets come from pet eggs. The incubation process works as follows:
- Place the pet egg in the incubator by double-clicking or right-clicking.
- Incubation costs in-game currency – the exact amount depends on the specific egg.
- During incubation you give the pet an individual name (4–20 characters).
- The name can be changed later with the appropriate item.
The naming is permanent – at least until you use a rename item. So choose a name that you can live with in the long term.
Runtime: How Long Does Your Pet Live?
Each pet receives a random maximum runtime of between 1 and 14 days when incubated. Important: This runtime runs in real time, not in game time – the clock counts even when you're offline.
| Property | Details |
|---|---|
| Standard runtime (random) | 1–14 days (real time) |
| Extended runtime (e.g. Meleys Baby) | Up to 45 days |
| Extend runtime | By feeding other pets, pet eggs or special items |
| When runtime = 0 | Pet dies, age is reset |
| Resurrection with 80% age | Special resurrection item required |
| Resurrection items per 10 days age | One item per started 10 days age |
Some special pets like Meleys Baby have an inherently longer maximum runtime of up to 45 days and are therefore much more low-maintenance than standard pets.
What Happens When Your Pet Dies?
When the runtime drops to zero, the pet dies. This does not mean the permanent end – you can bring it back with a resurrection item. However, the pet's age is reset to zero. With a special item, the pet can be resurrected with 80% of its original age, which significantly reduces age loss. The older the pet was, the more resurrection items you need: You need one item per 10 days of age.
Levelling Your Pet: Experience and Advancement
For a pet to collect experience points, it must be actively summoned and accompany your character. A pet in storage collects no experience. The levelling system is divided into two types of experience:
| Experience Type | Share in Level Advancement | Source | Symbol |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal Experience | 90% | Killing monsters (proportional to character kill) | Red orbs (4 orbs) |
| Item Experience | 10% | Blue orbs (feeding special items) | Blue orb (1 orb) |
Normal Experience in Detail
Normal experience is represented by red orbs and accounts for 90% of your total level progress. Your pet receives experience points proportionally when your character kills monsters. The key point: This pet experience is not deducted from the experience points that your character receives. So you don't lose anything by having your pet level up alongside you.
The experience per orb scales depending on the number of red orbs (22.5% / 45% / 67.5% / 90% per orb).
Item Experience in Detail
Item experience accounts for 10% of level progress and is represented by a blue orb. Your pet receives this experience by feeding special items. Without this blue orb, the pet cannot level up – both experience bars must be full.
Important Rules for Pet Usage
- No level restriction for the pet system itself – any character can use pets.
- A pet can only be summoned if its level does not exceed your character's level.
- Runtime runs in real time – even offline.
- Normal levelling and item levelling are both necessary for advancement.
- Pet experience does not compete with character experience.
Tips for Efficient Pet Management
Use these practices to get the most out of the pet system:
- Keep an eye on runtime: Feed your pet regularly with other pets or pet eggs before the runtime becomes critical. A dead pet loses its age.
- Summon your pet actively while grinding: Only summoned pets collect experience. Don't forget to summon your pet before you start farming.
- Don't neglect item experience: Since 10% of experience must come from blue orbs, an empty item experience bar blocks the entire level advancement.
- Prefer pets with long runtime: If you're looking for a low-maintenance pet, pets with extended runtime like Meleys Baby are worth considering.
- Keep resurrection items in stock: For older pets with a lot of invested experience, it's wise to always have a resurrection item on hand.
Frequently Asked Questions about the Metin2 Pet System
At what level can I use the pet system?
The pet system can be used without level restrictions. So you can own and incubate pets from the beginning. However, you can only summon a pet if its level does not exceed your own character level.
How do I open the pet overview in Metin2?
You can open the pet overview in three ways: using the P key, by clicking on the status display of a summoned pet, or via the button in the chat bar.
What happens to my pet when the runtime drops to zero?
The pet dies and its age is reset to zero. You can bring it back with a resurrection item – either with complete age loss or with 80% of the original age if you use the appropriate special item.
Does my character lose experience points when the pet levels up alongside it?
No. The pet receives experience points proportionally when your character kills monsters, but this experience is not deducted from the experience your character receives.
How many resurrection items do I need for my old pet?
You need one resurrection item per 10 days of your pet's age. A pet with 30 days of age would therefore need three items for resurrection with 80% age retention.
Can I change my pet's name after incubation?
Yes. Although the name is assigned during incubation (4–20 characters), it can be changed later with a special rename item.
What is the difference between normal experience and item experience for my pet?
Normal experience (90% of level advancement) is automatically collected by your pet when you kill monsters – represented by red orbs. Item experience (10%) must be actively added by feeding special items and is shown as a blue orb. Both bars must be full for the pet to level up.
What are Animal Seals used for in Metin2?
Animal Seals are used exclusively to summon mounts, power mounts or pets. Without the appropriate seal, no companion of this type can be activated.
