TL;DR: From level 25 onwards, you can start the horse quest with the stable master in Metin2 and tame your own horse. The horse is much faster than running and requires regular feeding.

What is the Horse Taming Handbook?

The Horse Taming Handbook (also: Horse Care Handbook) is a central item in Metin2 that explains how to care for, feed and manage your horse. From level 25 onwards, you can take on the horse quest with the stable master. If you succeed in the quest and have the necessary Yang, you'll receive your first own mount – a loyal companion that is much faster than walking on foot.

In addition to the classic horse, there are other mounts available through events or the item shop. However, the horse is the basic, quest-based mount that is available to every player.

Unlock Your Horse – How to Do It From Level 25

Entry into horse ownership always goes through the stable master in your starting zone. Once you reach level 25, the horse quest becomes available. If you fulfil the quest requirements and have the necessary Yang, the horse is yours. The exact Yang costs and quest steps are shown to you by the stable master in the game.

If you want to speed up levelling your horse, there is the Scroll of Oblivion: With it, you can level up your horse directly without waiting – each use costs 25 Dragon Coins (DR).

The "Call Horse" Skill – Mana and Level

The "Call Horse" skill determines how successfully you can summon your horse. Each summon attempt consumes mana points – varying depending on the horse type:

Mana costs by horse type when summoning
Horse Type Mana cost per summon attempt
Normal Horse 100 MP
Battle Steed 200 MP
Military Steed 300 MP

The "Call Horse" skill is increased through regular use. The higher your skill level, the more reliable you are at summoning your horse.

Feeding Your Horse – Food and Frequency

Your horse must be fed regularly or it will die. The required feeding frequency depends on your horse's level: The lower your horse's level, the more often you must feed it. Additionally, each horse type requires its own specific food – you can see what is needed in the Horse Care Handbook, which opens when you click on your horse.

What You Can Do in the Horse Care Handbook

Clicking on your horse opens the handbook with these functions:

Reviving Your Horse – The Herb From the Monkey Dungeon

A horse in Metin2 dies exclusively from starvation – it takes no combat damage. If your horse dies because you forgot to feed it, you can revive it with a specific herb. These herbs are dropped by the boss monkeys in the Monkey Dungeon (MD):

Revival herbs by dungeon difficulty
Monkey Dungeon Difficulty Use
Monkey Dungeon (Easy) Easy Appropriate herb for the respective horse type
Monkey Dungeon (Medium) Medium Appropriate herb for the respective horse type
Monkey Dungeon (Hard) Hard Appropriate herb for the respective horse type

Revival with the herb always happens with the stable master – you cannot revive your horse yourself in the wild. Which herb is needed for which horse type depends on the type of your horse.

Horse Sugar – Name and Defence Bonus

Since the patch of 9th June 2009, Horse Sugar has been available in the item shop. It costs 49 Dragon Coins and offers two benefits for 30 days:

Horse Sugar is an optional convenience item with no mandatory character – the horse works completely without it.

Other Mounts in Metin2

The quest-based horse is not the only mount in Metin2. There are a whole range of other mounts that can be obtained either through events or directly in the item shop. These alternative mounts sometimes have their own appearance and stats, but follow the same basic principles as the normal horse.

If you want to progress quickly, you should unlock your horse as early as possible – the increased movement speed pays off significantly when farming, completing quests and exploring the map.
