TL;DR: Horse Sugar costs 49 Dragon Coins in the Item Shop, gives your horse a name for 30 days and increases its defence value by 20 points.

The Horse Sugar is an Item Shop object in Metin2 that has been available since the patch on 9th June 2009. It costs 49 Dragon Coins and allows you to give your horse a personal name for 30 days. Additionally, Horse Sugar increases your horse's defence value by 20. In this guide, you'll learn everything you need to know about horses in Metin2 – from your first quest to revival after starvation.

What is the horse in Metin2?

The horse is Metin2's most important regular mount and offers significantly higher movement speed compared to running on foot. You can start the horse quest from Level 25 with the Stable Master. Once you've successfully completed the quest and have the required gold, you'll own your own mount.

Besides the normal horse, Metin2 has numerous other mounts available through events or the Item Shop. However, the classic horse remains the foundation that every player from Level 25 can aspire to.

Horse Sugar: Costs, Effects and Duration

Horse Sugar is the central item for personalising your horse. Here are all the known facts at a glance:

Horse Sugar – Overview of all values
Property Value
Purchase location Item Shop
Price 49 Dragon Coins
Effect 1 Naming for your horse
Naming duration 30 days
Effect 2 +20 defence value for your horse
Introduced on 9th June 2009 (patch)

The +20 defence bonus to your horse is a nice side effect that can benefit riders. However, the main reason to purchase it is the ability to give your horse its own name – a popular feature in the community to personalise your own mount.

When can you ride? The horse quest

The requirement for your own horse is straightforward: Level 25. From this level onwards, you can find the Stable Master and undertake the horse quest. After completing the quest and with the required gold, you will own your own horse.

Tip: With the Scroll of Forgetfulness, you can level up your horse directly without waiting. This costs 25 Dragon Coins (DC) per use – handy if you want to progress quickly.

Calling your horse: The skill and its costs

Calling your horse is not taken for granted – in Metin2 there is a dedicated skill called "Call Horse". It indicates how well your character can summon the horse. Every summon attempt costs mana points, varying depending on the horse type:

Mana costs for calling your horse by horse type
Horse type Mana cost per summon attempt
Standard horse 100 MP
Combat steed 200 MP
Military steed 300 MP

The "Call Horse" skill can be improved through training, which increases the success rate when summoning your horse. The higher your skill level, the more reliably your horse appears on command.

Feeding: How to keep your horse alive

A horse in Metin2 must be fed regularly – if it starves, it dies. How often you need to feed depends directly on your horse's level: The lower the horse level, the more frequent feeding is required. The higher the level, the less often you need to worry about it.

Important: Different horse types require different types of food. You can find which food your horse needs in the Horse Care Manual, which opens when you click on your horse.

The Horse Care Manual offers you the following actions:

Horse revival: What to do if it has starved?

If your horse starves, it's dead – but not lost forever. You can revive it with a special herb. These herbs are dropped by Boss Apes in the Ape Dungeons (AD):

To revive your starved horse, you must go to the Stable Master and use the appropriate herb for your horse type. You can find out which herb is needed for which horse type from the Stable Master as well. It's therefore worth always keeping an herb in your inventory in case you forget to feed your horse.

Levelling your horse: Faster with the Scroll of Forgetfulness

The horse level determines how often you need to feed and affects the basic values of your mount. There are two ways to increase the horse level:

  1. Normal levelling – by regularly riding and using your horse
  2. Scroll of Forgetfulness – level up your horse directly for 25 Dragon Coins (DC) per use without waiting

Anyone who wants to progress quickly and has Dragon Coins available uses the Scroll of Forgetfulness. For players who are not in a hurry, normal levelling is perfectly fine.

Horse Sugar vs. other mounts in the Item Shop

Horse Sugar is specifically designed for the classic horse – it gives your horse a name and increases its defence by 20. For other mounts from the Item Shop or events, Horse Sugar does not apply. These alternative mounts have their own mechanics and are usually purely cosmetic or come with other bonuses.

So if you want to use your classic starting horse long-term and personalise it, Horse Sugar is a good choice. For 49 Dragon Coins, you get naming rights and a small defensive bonus for 30 days.
