What is the Herb of Heavy Ape?

The Herb of Heavy Ape is an item in Metin2 that is exclusively used to revive a starving horse. Horses in Metin2 only die from starvation – not from combat damage. If you neglect your horse and fail to feed it in time, you'll need this special herb to bring it back at the Stable Master. The herb comes in three variants – light, medium, and heavy – depending on which Ape Dungeon you visit. The Herb of Heavy Ape is the variant for certain horse types.

Where do you get the Herb of Heavy Ape?

The item drops from the Boss Ape in the Heavy Ape Dungeon (AD). The Heavy Ape Dungeon is the most challenging of the three AD variants in Metin2. Only the Boss Ape at the end of the dungeon – not regular ape enemies – drops the herb. This means: You must successfully complete the Heavy AD to obtain the herb.

Which horse type needs this herb?

In Metin2 there are various horse types, and each requires a specific herb variant for revival. The Herb of Heavy Ape is intended for a specific horse type according to the wiki. The exact assignment of which herb suits which horse type is shown at the Stable Master in-game. Basic rule: The more advanced (and expensive) the horse type, the more likely you'll need the heavy herb. Check your horse manual before the dungeon run to see which herb your horse specifically needs.

The Horse in Metin2 – Basics at a Glance

The horse is available in Metin2 from Level 25 onwards. From this level, you can start the horse quest at the Stable Master. A horse is significantly faster than travelling on foot and is therefore an important convenience feature in your daily gameplay.

Important basic rules for horse owners:

• Your horse must be fed regularly – the frequency depends on the horse's level.
• The lower the horse's level, the more often it needs to be fed.
• Different horse types require different food.
• A horse dies exclusively from starvation, not from combat damage.
• With the Scroll of Forgetting (25 Dragon Coins) you can level up your horse without waiting.

Feeding your horse – so it doesn't die in the first place

Prevention is better than revival: If you feed your horse regularly, you won't need the Herb of Heavy Ape at all. Feeding is done through the Horse Manual, which opens when you click on your horse. There you'll find the following options:

• Feed: Gives your horse a piece of the appropriate food.
• Mount: You get on your horse and ride off.
• Dismiss: Sends your horse away.

Remember: The required food type varies depending on your horse type. Check the manual to see what your horse wants to eat before you shop.

Reviving Your Horse – Step by Step

If your horse has already starved, the revival process works like this: You obtain the appropriate herb (in this case the Herb of Heavy Ape from the Heavy AD) and take it to the Stable Master. The Stable Master accepts the herb and revives your horse. Without the correct herb, revival is not possible – so make sure you farm the right variant.

Name Your Horse and Increase Defence – Horse Sugar

Since the patch of 9 June 2009, there's a so-called Horse Sugar available in the Item Shop for 49 Dragon Coins. With it, you can give your horse a custom name of your choice for 30 days. As a bonus, your horse's defence value increases by 20. Not a mandatory item, but a nice extra for active horse owners.

Calling Your Horse – Mana Costs and Skill

The "Call Horse" skill determines how well you can summon your horse. Each summon attempt costs 100 mana points (for the War Horse 200 MP, for the Military Horse 300 MP). The skill itself can be improved through practice. In addition to the classic horse, there are a number of other mounts available through events or the Item Shop.
