Herbalism in Metin2 is a standalone crafting system available since the 17 July 2007 patch. Through three specialised NPCs – Baek-Go, Yu-Hwan and Huahn-So – you can brew collected herbs into useful potions that help you in combat and whilst levelling. Golden Herb is part of this comprehensive herb ecosystem. This guide explains all the key fundamentals: where to find the NPCs, which potions you can brew with each of them, and what you need to know about quests with Biologist Chaegirab.
What is Herbalism in Metin2?
Herbalism is a profession and crafting system where players collect herbs from monsters and have them converted into potions by specific NPCs. The system is divided into three potion tiers:
- Basic Potions – the simplest potions, accessible from level 15
- Advanced Potions – stronger variants, available from higher-tier NPCs
- Expert Potions – the strongest potions, exclusive to Huahn-So
Important to distinguish: herbs come with two labels – "Potion Brewing" and "Research". Only herbs labelled Potion Brewing can be processed into potions. Research herbs are exclusively for quests with Biologist Chaegirab and cannot be brewed into potions.
Biologist Chaegirab – Herbalism Quests for Beginners
Biologist Chaegirab is the first contact for players starting herbalism. He is located on Map1 in a small camp and is relevant for characters between level 4 and level 25.
Chaegirab sends you out multiple times to obtain a specific number of special herbs. The following rules apply:
- The required herbs are labelled "Research" and drop exclusively from certain monsters whilst the active quest is running.
- Herb submission can fail – not every herb is suitable for research.
- You can only hold as many research herbs in your inventory at once as you still need to submit. Your inventory won't be blocked by unnecessary excess.
- Chaegirab accepts only research herbs – normal potion brewing herbs are rejected.

The Three Herbalism NPCs at a Glance
Three different NPCs are available for potion brewing, each offering different potion tiers. Here is a compact overview:
| NPC | Location | Available Potion Tiers | Special Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Baek-Go | Village 1 (Map1) | Basic Potions | Unlocked only after quest "Ingredient for Medicine"; minimum level 15 |
| Yu-Hwan | Village 2 (Map2) | Basic Potions & Advanced Potions | Only NPC on Map2 with Advanced Potions |
| Huahn-So | Village 2 (Map2) & Donge Valley Village | Basic, Advanced & Expert Potions | Only NPC for Expert Potions; two locations |
Baek-Go – Herbalism for Beginners (Map1)
Baek-Go is the easiest entry point into potion brewing. You'll find him in Village 1 on Map1. To unlock the "Herbalism" option with him, you must first complete the quest "Ingredient for Medicine". You can also start this quest with him.
Baek-Go can only brew the four basic potions. For higher-tier potions, you need to switch to Yu-Hwan or Huahn-So. Important: To have potions brewed by Baek-Go, you must have reached at least level 15.
Yu-Hwan – Basic and Advanced Potions (Map2)
Yu-Hwan is located in Village 2 on Map2. He significantly expands the offering compared to Baek-Go: you can have both all four basic potions and the four advanced potions brewed by him.
If you're on Map2 and want to produce potions more efficiently, Yu-Hwan is your central contact point. For players with some experience who need stronger potions, he's the next step up from Baek-Go.
Huahn-So – The Expert NPC for All Potion Tiers
Huahn-So is the most versatile and advanced herbalism NPC in the game. He can be found at two locations: in Village 2 on Map2 and in Donge Valley Village. This makes him accessible for players in both areas.
With Huahn-So, you can have all three potion tiers brewed:
- Basic Potions (the same as with Baek-Go and Yu-Hwan)
- Advanced Potions (the same as with Yu-Hwan)
- Expert Potions – exclusive to Huahn-So, no other NPC offers this tier
If you rely on the most powerful potions in the herbalism system, there's no way around Huahn-So. Since he's also available in Donge Valley Village, players in that area don't need to travel back to Map2.
Collecting Herbs – What You Need to Know
Herb collection is the foundation of the entire system. There are two clearly separated herb types you shouldn't confuse:
| Label | Usage | Can Be Brewed Into Potions? | NPC Submission Possible? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Potion Brewing | Brewing potions at NPCs | Yes | No (not for Biologist quests) |
| Research | Quests with Biologist Chaegirab | No | Yes (Chaegirab only) |
Research herbs only drop from the corresponding monsters when you have actively accepted the quest with Biologist Chaegirab. Without an active quest, there are no research herb drops. Additionally, the maximum inventory amount is limited to the amount you still need to submit – you can't hoard excess research herbs.
Tip: Always check the exact label in the herb's tooltip when collecting. "Golden Herb" and similar herbs are part of the potion brewing system and can be processed into potions at the corresponding NPCs.
Practical Tips for Herbalism
- Quest first, then collect: Research herbs for Chaegirab only drop during the active quest. Accept the quest before you farm monsters.
- Level 15 as minimum requirement: Below level 15, herbalism options with Baek-Go are unavailable, even if you've completed the prerequisite quest.
- Correct quest at Baek-Go: The "Herbalism" option at Baek-Go only becomes visible after completing the quest "Ingredient for Medicine" – without this quest you won't see the option at all.
- Expert Potions only at Huahn-So: If you want to brew the strongest potions, you must go to Huahn-So – no other NPC can help you with this.
- Use both locations: Huahn-So is available on both Map2 and in Donge Valley Village. Use the location that matches your current farming zone.
