Overview: The Stockpile in Ikariam
The Stockpile is a building that was introduced in Ikariam with version 0.4.0. It serves to store raw materials and has four times the raw material capacity of a Warehouse, but without further reductions it does not protect raw materials from plunder.
The Stockpile can only be built once per town. At the same time, with its introduction, the maximum number of Warehouses per town was limited to 5.
The prerequisite is the research "Stockpile" with 48,000 research points, which is located after Winery and before Bureaucracy.
Research and Summer Special
Once the "Stockpile" research is completed, an existing Warehouse can be converted into a Level 1/4 Stockpile as part of a Summer Special.
Additionally, with the introduction of the Stockpile, the costs for Palace Level 11 were reduced so that it can be built with a Stockpile and four Warehouses. For this, a Carpenter's Workshop Level 32 is required.
Storage Capacity and Protection
The Stockpile has four times the raw material capacity of a Warehouse. Without additional reductions, it does not protect stored raw materials from plunder – unlike the classic Warehouse.
The capacity and building time increase significantly with each expansion level. The following table shows an excerpt of the values with and without reductions.

Which Raw Materials are Stored?
In Ikariam there are two types of raw materials: Building Materials and Luxury Goods. Building Materials include Wood, which is obtained via the Sawmill on the island map.
The four luxury raw materials are Wine, Marble, Crystal Glass and Sulphur. Luxury raw materials are only available once Prosperity (Economics) has been researched. Each island has a source of luxury raw material.
- Wine is needed for the Tavern and Cooks.
- Marble, Crystal Glass, Wine, Sulphur and Wood are used for buildings and the city wall.
- Crystal Glass is used for the Academy, Doctors, Spies and improvements in the Inventor's Workshop.
- Sulphur is needed for almost all units and warships.
- Wood is used for training troops and purchasing warships.
Consumption-Reducing Buildings
In addition to the Stockpile, there are buildings that reduce raw material consumption or increase production. Production-promoting buildings become available after researching "Improved Raw Material Extraction" (Economics).
| Raw Material | Production-Promoting Building | Consumption-Reducing Building | Research |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wood | Forest House | Carpenter's Workshop | Carpentry (Seafaring) |
| Marble | Stonemason | Architect's Office | Architecture (Economics) |
| Wine | Vineyard | Winery | Winery (Economics) |
| Crystal Glass | Glassblower | Optician | Optics (Science) |
| Sulphur | Alchemist's Tower | Fireworks Factory | Pyrotechnics (Military) |
