The Scoring System
In Ikariam, points are calculated automatically based on your activities. They give other players an indication of your strength and progress. The ranking shows the strongest players and alliances on your server. Points have no direct gameplay effect — you gain no advantages from a high score — but they are an important indicator of experience and potential threat.
Point Types
Building points are earned for every upgrade — higher levels give exponentially more points. Research points come from completed technologies in the research tree. Military points reflect the total strength of your army and fleet, based on the number and type of units. The total score is the sum of all three categories.
Individual categories allow conclusions: high military points with low building points indicate an aggressive player who relies on plundering. High building points with low military points indicate a peaceful economic player — potentially an attractive plundering target without strong defences. Use this information when assessing your neighbours.
Using the Ranking Strategically
The ranking helps in assessing opponents and partners. Players with a significantly higher score are dangerous opponents — avoid them. Players with a similar score are equal trading and alliance partners. Monitor the ranking regularly — sudden point jumps from a neighbour can indicate military build-up or aggressive colony expansion.
The alliance ranking is also relevant: strong alliances attract strong players and deter enemies. Your contribution to the alliance's total score makes you a valuable member. Some alliances have minimum point thresholds for membership — work towards that if you want to join a top alliance.
