The Inventor's Workshop

The Inventor's Workshop is one of the most interesting buildings in Ikariam. It enables the construction of spies and tactical inventions that provide decisive advantages in combat and reconnaissance. The building is unlocked through research in the Science branch (Invention) and requires a building plot in your city.

Espionage

Spies are your most important tool for gathering information. Send them to enemy cities to uncover troop numbers, resource stocks and building levels. The higher the Workshop level, the more effective and harder to detect your spies are. Enemy workshops can intercept your spies — a constant game of cat and mouse.

Use espionage defensively and offensively: regularly check whether enemies are scouting your cities. Always spy before attacks — an attack without reconnaissance is like jumping in at the deep end. The Workshop also boosts counter-espionage and protects your own secrets.

Inventions and Gadgets

Besides espionage, the Workshop offers various tactical inventions. These gadgets can be deployed in battles and range from defence reinforcements to attack boosters. Experiment with different combinations — the optimal inventions depend on your strategy and the situation on your server.

Workshop Tips

Build the Workshop to at least level 4 before sending your first spy — low levels have a high detection chance. Invest in the Workshop if you actively play PvP or your alliance needs reconnaissance for coordinated operations. In peaceful play, the Workshop has lower priority than economic buildings.

Counter-Espionage

The Workshop also improves your counter-espionage and protects your secrets. Enemy workshops can intercept your spies — a constant game of cat and mouse. Regularly check whether enemies are scouting your cities. In peaceful play, the Workshop has lower priority than economic buildings — build it only when PvP becomes relevant.
