What is Ambrosia?
Ambrosia is the optional premium currency in Ikariam. It can be used in the shop for various convenience features. The most important aspect: Ambrosia gives no direct combat advantage — it makes the gaming experience more comfortable, not stronger. You can play Ikariam fully without Ambrosia and be just as competitive as paying players.
Ambrosia Features
With Ambrosia you can use the automatic worker distributor, which saves daily clicks when distributing workers across multiple cities. Build times can be sped up, which is particularly useful for long upgrades at high levels. Additional building plots give you more flexibility in city expansion. Cosmetic customisations let you personalise your city.
The worker distributor is the most used feature — from three or more cities it saves considerable time. Some features are permanently active (like the Governor), others are one-time boosts (like build time acceleration). Plan your Ambrosia use strategically: better to speed up one critical upgrade than many small ones.
Is It Worth Buying?
For casual players, Ambrosia is not necessary. Everything in the game is achievable without premium currency — it just takes a bit longer. Heavy players with multiple cities benefit most from the worker distributor and build time acceleration.
If you want to support Ikariam, a small purchase is a nice gesture to the developers who have been maintaining the game for over 15 years. Occasionally small amounts of Ambrosia are available for free as event rewards — use these for the most important features.
